Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Corporate Secretary and General Counsel of the Gallery, the successful candidate will ensure the Gallery’s compliance with applicable Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) laws and policies including the development of ATIP management framework, the processing of ATIP requests, the development of policies and guidelines, the provision of advice and training to Gallery staff, the monitoring of compliance, the preparation of annual reports to Parliament, the management of complaints and any other related tasks.


The successful candidate will also provide legal advice, issue legal opinions and participate in the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements; coordinate certain mandates entrusted to external legal advisors; contribute to the development of standardized contract templates; participate in the continuous improvement of the Legal Affairs department's processes and procedures, including information management; provide in-house training as required; and support the department with other related duties.



Requirements

  • Member of the Law Society of Ontario (an asset). 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience administering and processing complex Access to Information and Privacy requests in a federal, provincial or territorial environment
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience providing legal advice and support in commercial law matters, including contract review, drafting and negotiation (an asset). 
  • Knowledge of the Access to Information Act, the Privacy Act, and related policies, guidelines and regulations, applicable exemptions and complaints process. 
  • Knowledge of the legislative, regulatory and policy framework governing Crown corporations and an understanding of the cultural sector environment (an asset)
