Job Summary
The Community Recovery Advocate is responsible for providing peer recovery support services for the MN Prevention & Recovery Alliance (“MnPRA”) to County Contract participants. Drawing appropriately on lived recovery experience, this role supports women and families impacted by substance use disorder by helping them identify recovery goals, access treatment and community resources, and strengthen positive support systems.
As a visible representative of MnPRA, this position serves as a liaison with county partners, treatment facilities, community providers, and internal stakeholders. The role requires professionalism, sound boundaries, confidentiality, cultural responsiveness, and a commitment to supporting recovery with dignity and practical connection.
 

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential functions include the following:

Outreach and Administration
 Maintain existing community relationships and develop new partnerships to support participant access to recovery, family, and community-based services.
 Collaborate with county partners to successfully deliver, support, and grow contracted services.
 Establish and maintain partnerships with organizations supporting women, children, and families in Contracted County Areas.
 Provide program tracking data, service updates, and monthly reports on participant engagement, program activity, and outcomes.
 Represent MnPRA professionally in community meetings, partner interactions, outreach activities, and other assigned program-related events.
 Identify participant needs, service gaps, barriers, trends, or community resource needs and communicate them to appropriate MnPRA staff or leadership.

Peer Recovery Services
 Provide one-on-one peer recovery support with individuals seeking help in maintaining their recovery, helping clients work through any barriers they may be facing.
 Provide peer recovery support services in alignment with MnPRA’s all-pathways recovery philosophy, with respect and affirmation of each participant’s chosen recovery pathway without judgement, coercion or preference for any given approach. This includes identifying when a participant’s needs exceed MnPRA’s scope of services and facilitate a timely referral to alternative support including treatment, social services, healthcare, housing or a culturally specific resource.
 Develop Recovery Wellness Plan (“RWP”), upon initial meeting with client(s) and set meaningful, achievable goals. Ensure ongoing visibility of RWP with client care team.
 Connect clients with community resources, including treatment programs, housing support, food assistance, and employment services.
 Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in accordance with MnPRA’s Code of Ethics.
 Document client interactions, progress, and services provided. A CPRS can bill up to a maximum of 8 units per client (4 hours) in one day.
 Document billing services to submit hours to be paid based on billable services provided.
 Attend and participate in weekly meetings with your supervisor and weekly Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) supervision sessions.
 Maintain ongoing relationships with treatment centers, withdrawal management facilities, and other community partners.
 Perform basic administrative tasks, including email correspondence, documentation management, and report submissions.

Required Skills & Experience (Minimum Qualifications):
 High School Diploma or equivalent required.
 Must hold and maintain a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) credential in good standing through the Minnesota Certification Board ("MCB") or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
o Must maintain all certification and eligibility requirements established by the Minnesota Certification Board.
 Must abide by Minnesota Certification Board’s (MCB’s) code of ethics with the ability to maintain professional boundaries while providing compassionate peer support.
 Ability to model appropriate professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical peer support practices.
 Minimum of two years of relevant experience in peer recovery support, substance use recovery services, community outreach, advocacy, case management, social services, or a related human services setting.
 Previous experience working with or navigating Child Protective Services, county agencies, family support systems, or other community-based service systems.
 Demonstrated understanding of all-pathways recovery principles and ability to support participants with diverse recovery goals and lived experience.
 At least one year of freedom from problematic substances.
 Commitment to MnPRA’s Culture or Honor and core values.
 Previous experience with electronic health record (EHR) system, such as Credible preferred.
 Excellent in-person communication, relationship management, and interpersonal skills.
 Ability to make effective, sound, timely, and informed decisions independently.
 Self-starter with the ability to work independently while maintaining appropriate communication with leadership and program partners.
 Proficient in Microsoft Office suite programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
 Comfort and compassion in working with individuals facing life-controlling challenges, such as mental health issues and addiction.
 Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment, supporting operational needs and change.
 Must have a valid driver’s license in the State of MN and a clean driving record that meets MnPRA’s insurance requirements.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
 Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
 Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at a time.
 Must be able to travel locally on a regular basis to meet with clients, community partners, and attend meetings or events as required.
 Must be able to enter and exit vehicles and safely transport clients to and from appointments, services, and activities.

Compensation: $48,000 to $54,000 annually DOQ
