Responsibilities

Candidates should have a high school diploma and at least five years of experience with Quality Management Systems, including three years in automotive or aerospace manufacturing. Proficiency in PC-DMIS CMM programming and knowledge of ISO 9001/IATF 16949 standards are highly preferred.

Quality Technician/CMM Programmer

Reports to: Quality Manager

Status: Non-Exempt

Location: TapeMaster - Troy, MI 48083

Summary of Position: Quality Technician is critical in ensuring that machined components meet all customer specifications, engineering drawings, and established quality standards. This position will perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, CMM) to identify and resolve any quality issues that may arise. This position is essential to maintaining customer satisfaction, supporting continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with company Quality Management Systems (QMS) and industry standards. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this position successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

  • Shall adhere to all safety, health and environmental procedures, policies and practices (Employee Handbook)
  • Shall support company's expectations through establishing guidelines for management of the process of manufacturing and quality process management system
  • Shall be a key person in the internal auditing of companies procedures and writing evaluations with options for correction for the managements review

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Inspect and test material and manufactured parts ensuring they meet customer specifications; this includes dimensions, safety and functionality. Tools used: calipers, micrometers, CMM equipment
  2. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and specifications
  3. Identify and separate non-conforming material in accordance with company procedure
  4. Work closely with machinists and supervisors to resolve quality issues that may arise
  5. Complete an accurate record of first article inspection, inspection reports, quality documentation, and production records
  6. Work with Quality Manager on needed equipment upgrades and programming updates
  7. Accept or reject finished products and communcation inspection results with production team
  8. Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and any other applicable quality standards
  9. Documentation control for physical and digital libraries to be set up and governed for plant access to QMS forms and procedures
  10. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Skills/Competencies:

  • Personal computing skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite and QMS systems
  • Basic math knowledge
  • Problem Solving/Analytical Skills
  • Strong communication skills - both written & oral
  • Blueprint/Engineering drawing reading
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • CMM Programming in PC-DMIS
  • Critical knowledge of QMS systems and CMM programming
  • Ability to identify urgent and/or emerging problems, identify alternative corrective actions, and engage appropriate colleagues in problem resolution

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Quality Inspector/Technician Certification (CQI or CQT) preferred
  • Associates in related field preferred

Experience Requirements:

  • Five (5) years or more of experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • Three to five (3-5) years of CMM programming preferred
  • Three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing setting (specifically automotive and aerospace)

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to work on a personal computer, monitor data, initiate actions through email or phone
  • Incumbents are frequently required to spend time in plant setting up equipment/fixturing which may require climbing, stooping, and standing
