Responsibilities

The Dietitian/Diabetic Educator provides evidence-based medical nutrition therapy and diabetes self-management education to both inpatient and outpatient populations. They also collaborate with the clinical support team to oversee kitchen operations, regulatory compliance, and food service quality standards.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or a related field and be a Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Preference is given to those with 1-2 years of clinical experience and a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential.

TITLE: Dietitian/Diabetic Educator/ Diabetes Quality Coordinator                        DEPARTMENT: Nutritional Services
STATUS: Full Time – 32 hours per week                                                               HOURS: Primarily Day Shift. Low Census may be required in response to workload demand.

ROLE/POSITION DEFINITION: The Dietitian/Diabetic Educator provides evidence-based medical nutrition therapy, diabetes self-management education, and individualized nutrition counseling to inpatient and outpatient populations. Responsibilities include conducting nutrition assessments, developing care plans, educating patients, families, and healthcare staff, and collaborating with providers and the interdisciplinary care team to improve patient outcomes.

This position partners with the Director of Clinical Support Services to support the overall operation of Nutritional Service, including assisting with the oversight of kitchen operations, kitchen inventory, regulatory compliance, food service quality, and nutrition standards. The Dietitian/Diabetic Educator maintains an outpatient clinic schedule to provide nutrition services for diabetes, weight management, malnutrition, chronic disease prevention, and other nutrition-related conditions. The Dietitian/Diabetes Educator also works with the primary care network and community partners to expand outpatient nutrition services and develop programs that meet community needs. 

QUALIFICATIONS/POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

A. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelors required/Master Degree (if obtained after 1/1/24) in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food and Nutrition or a related field, required. 
  2. 1-2 years hospital related clinical nutrition experience, preferred. 
  3. Experience providing outpatient services to patients in an office setting, preferred.
  4. Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. 
  5. Experience in a supervisory capacity, preferred. 
  6. Ability to work individually and in a team setting
  7. Self-directed and has ability to prioritize
  8. Ability to read, write and speak the English language
  9. Excellent customer service skills.
  10. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential preferred, or willingness to obtain when eligible. 
  11. Current knowledge of diabetes self-management education and support, medical nutrition therapy, cardiometabolic disease prevention, and chronic disease management preferred.

  6. Ability to apply the principles of excellence and quality services in the Nutritional Services department.
  7. Evidence of a sense of responsibility, initiative, honesty, and positive attitude.
