The Technical Specialist performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic laboratory testing while maintaining bench competencies for at least 50% of their time. They also provide technical leadership, assist with staff training, and participate in quality assurance and performance improvement programs.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or a related field and have at least one year of experience in a clinical laboratory. Proficiency in English, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work independently are required.
Full job description
Non-exempt position. Expected to maintain bench competencies and work at the bench for at least 50% of time worked. Function independently and collaboratively with the laboratory leadership in performing all major work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. Perform a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, and act as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results. May be responsible for instrument correlation, and method validation. Correlate data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. Participate in laboratory quality assurance programs and performance improvement activities. Assist with staff and student training, orientation of new employees, updating procedures, and providing technical leadership for areas of responsibility. Provide direction and problem solving skills for laboratory functions. Implement standardization efforts in the laboratory as directed by laboratory leadership.
