Job Summary
The Non-Energized Pole Removal Foreman is responsible for leading and supervising field crews performing the safe removal of abandoned or retired utility poles and associated hardware on non-energized distribution systems. The Foreman ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, customer specifications, OSHA regulations, and applicable utility standards. This position is responsible for planning daily work activities, coordinating equipment and personnel, maintaining productivity, and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the project.
Responsibilities
Lead and supervise daily crew activities related exclusively to the removal of non-energized utility poles and associated hardware.
Plan and coordinate daily work assignments to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Verify all utility locates, work permits, traffic control, and environmental requirements are in place before work begins.
Ensure all crew members understand the scope of work, potential hazards, and required safe work practices.
Coordinate the safe operation of digger derricks, excavators, cranes, winches, bucket trucks, and other equipment used during pole removal operations.
Inspect each work site for hazards and implement corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment.
Monitor work quality to ensure all poles, anchors, hardware, and associated materials are removed in accordance with customer specifications and project requirements.
Ensure removed poles and materials are properly handled, loaded, transported, and disposed of or staged in accordance with environmental and customer requirements.
Complete daily production reports, equipment inspections, time records, and project documentation accurately and on time.
Maintain effective communication with project management, utility representatives, inspectors, subcontractors, and property owners as needed.
Inspect tools, equipment, and vehicles daily to ensure they remain in safe operating condition.
Train and mentor crew members on proper pole removal procedures, equipment operation, and company safety policies.
Assist with field operations when necessary while maintaining responsibility for crew supervision and overall jobsite safety.
Promote and enforce a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and professionalism always.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of four (4) years of utility construction experience.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience leading field crews or serving in a supervisory role.
Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, utility construction safety practices, and right-of-way work.
Ability to read construction prints, work orders, staking sheets, and utility maps.
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
5 or more years of utility line construction experience.
OSHA 10 Certification.
Experience with utility pole removal projects.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
