Full job description

Part I Architectural Assistant

Application Deadline: 3 July 2026

Department: Architecture

Employment Type: Fixed Term - Full Time

Location: London, UK

Compensation: £29,000 - £30,000 / year

Description

We have an opportunity for Part I Architectural Assistants to join our London studio for a one-year placement.

We are a friendly, diverse team of around 50 people in London and 30 in Rotterdam, working across residential, education, regeneration and urban-scale projects. Our culture is rooted in creating places where people thrive, with quality and sustainability embedded in every decision. We work with focus and precision to shape the built environment, fostering a creative and collaborative studio environment.

We are seeking candidates who have completed a bachelor’s degree in architecture (or related discipline) in the previous twelve months and are looking to gain experience in practice as part of their journey towards ARB qualification.

Role and responsibilities

Over the year you will gain broad exposure to architectural and urban design projects, supporting teams with design development, drawings, models and presentation material. You’ll contribute to both conceptual and technical stages, assist with research into briefs, materials and construction systems, and learn about regulatory requirements and project coordination.

In addition to project work, you will take part in meetings, site visits, CPD activities, our schools outreach programme, and wider studio activities.

Skills and knowledge

We are looking for candidates with strong academic results, a thoughtful and well-presented portfolio, and good digital skills across design software. Strong communication skills, teamwork, and a proactive approach are essential.

What we offer

As well as a competitive salary, we offer a contributory pension, cycle-to-work scheme, healthy snacks, an individual learning fund, and 24 days’ annual leave.

To apply, please submit a CV, portfolio and covering letter explaining your suitability via the ‘apply here’ link. Maccreanor Lavington is an award-winning architectural practice established in the early nineties by Gerard Maccreanor and Richard Lavington. Working from offices in London and Rotterdam, Maccreanor Lavington has built up a diverse portfolio of both individual buildings and large-scale urban design projects and has a particular expertise in housing, public buildings and regeneration. Our architecture is calm but uplifting, contemporary yet timeless. Rather than shout for attention, out work is deliberately background in character, seeking to create ‘ordinary’ places for living and working. Our philosophy is fabric-first design and we build robust, well-made buildings that will last. Our work has been recognised by numerous prestigious awards and has been cited as a case study in various publications on housing, schools and urban design.
