Position Summary
The Ladera Oaks Swim Team is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and motivated Head Age Group Coach to help lead our growing USA Swimming program while also serving as the Head Coach of our PSA Summer Swim Team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a coach who is passionate about developing swimmers both in and out of the water. The ideal candidate is an energetic leader who enjoys building relationships with athletes and families, creating a positive team culture, and helping swimmers reach their full potential.
Working alongside our Head Coach, this individual will play a key role in athlete development, season planning, team operations, and fostering a fun, competitive environment.
The ideal candidate is an energetic coach who creates a fun, positive environment where kids love to swim. They possess a strong technical background, are friendly and personable with athletes and parents, and can connect with and develop swimmers of all ages and abilities.
Primary Responsibilities
Head Age Group Coach USA Team (100 swimmers)
- Lead three age group practices each weekday.
- Develop and implement seasonal training plans with monthly goals that align with the team's long-term athlete development philosophy.
- Assist the Head Coach with overall season planning, group progression, and swimmer evaluations.
- Help organize team-building activities and social events.
- Attend and coach approximately 1–2 USA Swimming meets per month. Travel may be necessary.
- Build positive relationships with swimmers and families through regular deck conversations and email communication.
- Bring creativity, enthusiasm, and innovative ideas to strengthen and grow the program.
- Coach 1 – 2 masters swim practices weekly
Head PSA Summer Swim Team Coach (120 swimmers)
- Lead daily summer team practices.
- Assist with supervising and mentoring Junior Coaches.
- Plan and manage 2–3 home dual meets each summer.
- Prepare weekly meet lineups.
- Send weekly team communications to families.
- Attend PSA Board meetings every other month.
- Serves as the Meet Director for the league Championship Meet.
- Help create a fun, organized, and positive summer team experience.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Current USA Swimming membership
- ASCA certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Current American Red Cross certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Safety Training for Swim Coaches
- Minimum of three years of age group coaching experience
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities
- A passion for teaching and developing swimmers of all ages and abilities
- A positive, energetic, and collaborative coaching style

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position.
Typical weekly schedule includes:
- 15–20 hours of on-deck coaching (plus swim meets)
- 10–15 hours of administrative responsibilities
- Practices held Monday–Friday, 3:30–7:00 PM
- Weekend swim meets approximately 1–2 times per month during the USA Swimming season
