He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role: As a Duty Roster Coordinator, you’ll play a critical role at the centre of KiwiRail’s operations. You’ll be responsible for coordinating rosters for Locomotive Engineers, Terminal, and Container Terminal teams, ensuring our network runs safely and efficiently.
You’ll:
Manage and maintain staff rosters to meet operational and safety requirements
Respond to roster changes, absences, and unexpected challenges in real time
Ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times
Resolve roster-related queries quickly and effectively
This is a fast-paced, problem-solving role where no two shifts are the same—and where you can leave work behind at the end of each shift

Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
A positive, solution-focused mindset
Ability to adapt quickly and show resilience
Excellent attention to detail
Experience in roster coordination (preferred)
Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. Holidays Act, Rest and Meal Breaks Amendment Act) is advantageous
