Position Details:
- Position Title: General Support Specialist
- Position Type: Casual
- Location: Opportunities available at Kingsland Terrace
- Hours of Work: Shifts include days, evenings and weekends.
- Union Status: Unionized
Key Responsibilities
1. Meal Preparation & Resident Nutrition
- Preparing meals and serving of food and beverages in accordance with designated procedures and work routines, as required. Examples:
- Prepares and serves food to residents in dining room, ensuring that proper diets are given to the proper person.
- Ensures alternate entrees are offered to residents as required
- Informs Cook/Site Administrator of changes in resident food consumption (e.g. not eating).
- Makes coffee and tea as required.
- Assists residents with eating by cutting meat, cracking eggs, etc.
- Pours juices, milk, etc.
- Prepares cold cereals, butters bread, makes toast
- Sets tables in dining room.
- Assists Cook as required
- Prepares and delivers nourishments/snacks under the direction of the Cook/Site Administrator
- Delivers and picks up food carts, form suite dining areas pre/post dinner services.
- Takes food orders from residents as per approved menu guidelines by Dietitians
2. Cleaning & Kitchen Sanitation
- Cleans dietary equipment and areas and stores all items used in food services in accordance with designated procedures and work routines, as required. Examples:
- Cleans dishes and resets tables
- Cleans and stores dishes, utensils, cutlery, cookware, etc.
- Cleans and refills sugar, salt and pepper containers
- Cleans cupboards, shelves, storeroom, refrigerators, freezers, dishwasher, etc.
- Cleans all equipment in unit kitchens such as coffee machines, stove tops, warmers, ovens, toasters, etc.
- Stores leftover food items
- Stores food products and dietary supplies as required.
- Carries out regular and special cleaning assignments as scheduled.
3. Laundry & Waste Management
- Ensure facility laundry needs are completed as outlined below:
- Collect soiled linens, sorts, washes, dries, and folds.
- Launders kitchen aprons and rags.
- Ensures laundry space and equipment is left clean and sanitized.
- Removes and disposes of garbage according to prescribed procedures.
4. Equipment, Supplies & Chemical handling
- Perform all duties according to prescribed sanitation and infection control procedures.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and storage of equipment and supplies.
- Advises the Site Administrator when supplies need replenishing.
- Reports equipment problems to the Site Administrator and/or designate.
- Follows manufacturer’s instructions in the operation and use of all equipment and chemical
5. Team Support & Collaboration
Participate in the teams’ projects, trainings, committees, and meetings as required.
- Review minutes of meetings and memorandums provided to the team.

6. Professional Practice & Accountability
- Attend mandatory in-services, departmental meetings, and training sessions
- Participates in quality improvement activities as directed.
- Performs all duties as specified in the written policies and procedures of the Corporation, the facility and the Residential Services Department.
Qualifications:
- twelve (12) calendar months.
- Knowledgeable in the use of commercial laundry equipment.
- Knowledgeable regarding the use of cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Ability to read, write and comprehend English.
- Mentally and physically able to perform duties as outlined including physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, stretching and lifting heavy objects. Must be free of allergies or related conditions, which may be aggravated by work with detergents, soaps and chemicals regularly, used within the scope of the position.
- Demonstrates effective communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care and service for residents.
- Ability to function as an effective team member with other staff, residents, families, and the public.
