Position Summary
IDEAL Electric is seeking a Manufacturing Reliability Engineer to drive equipment reliability, process stability, and operational excellence within our heavy industrial manufacturing environment. This role supports the production of custom electric motors, generators, condensers, and power systems by improving manufacturing uptime, reducing process variation, and implementing data-driven reliability strategies. In addition to reliability engineering responsibilities, this position will lead the design, development, installation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing tooling, stamping dies, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and workholding systems. The successful candidate will also be responsible for identifying, specifying, purchasing, installing, and commissioning new manufacturing equipment while providing oversight of facility and building maintenance activities to ensure a safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing environment. This individual will work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, Quality, and Operations teams to enhance manufacturing capabilities, improve safety, reduce downtime, and support the efficient production of world-class electrical machinery.
Develop and execute reliability improvement strategies for critical manufacturing assets.
Monitor and improve equipment performance using reliability metrics such as MTBF, MTTR, uptime, and OEE.
Lead root cause investigations for equipment failures, safety incidents, and production interruptions.
Drive corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurring reliability issues.
Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs for machining, winding, balancing, testing, fabrication, and assembly operations.
Develop maintenance standards and reliability-centered maintenance strategies to maximize asset performance.
Analyze equipment performance data and implement solutions that improve productivity, machine reliability, and operational efficiency.
Support maintenance personnel in troubleshooting complex equipment and process issues.
Tooling, Dies & Fixture Engineering
Lead the design, development, procurement, installation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing tooling, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and workholding systems.
Design, maintain, repair, and optimize stamping dies to support safe, efficient, and repeatable production processes.
Manage tooling and fixture projects from concept through design, fabrication, installation, validation, and production launch.
Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to ensure tooling and die designs meet quality, productivity, safety, and reliability requirements.
Troubleshoot tooling, die, fixture, and manufacturing process issues to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
Develop tooling specifications, maintenance standards, spare parts requirements, and preventive maintenance programs to maximize tool life and performance.
Coordinate with vendors, machine shops, contractors, and suppliers to support tooling and equipment projects.
Support new product introductions by designing and implementing tooling and fixtures necessary for efficient manufacturing and assembly processes.
Evaluate manufacturing processes and recommend automation, ergonomic improvements, and fixture enhancements to improve throughput and quality.
Maintain tooling documentation, engineering drawings, revision controls, and asset records.
Capital Equipment & Machine Installation
Identify, evaluate, and specify new manufacturing equipment and machinery to support production capacity, efficiency, quality, and safety objectives.
Develop capital equipment justifications, cost estimates, equipment specifications, and vendor requirements for new machine purchases.
Lead machine selection activities, including vendor evaluations, technical reviews, factory acceptance testing, and procurement recommendations.
Manage new equipment purchases from concept through startup and production acceptance.
Lead the installation, commissioning, validation, and startup of new manufacturing equipment.
Coordinate facility modifications, utilities, rigging, foundations, contractor activities, and production requirements associated with machine installations.
Develop machine qualification plans and ensure equipment meets productivity, quality, safety, and reliability standards.
Establish preventive maintenance plans, spare parts inventories, and reliability standards for all newly installed equipment.
Train operators and maintenance personnel on the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of new machinery.
Provide project management leadership for capital improvement and manufacturing modernization initiatives.
Facilities & Building Maintenance
Lead facility and building maintenance programs to support safe and efficient manufacturing operations.
Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs for building infrastructure, including HVAC systems, compressed air systems, cranes, electrical distribution systems, plumbing, lighting, roofing, and facility grounds.
Coordinate repairs and maintenance activities for facility infrastructure and production support systems.
Prioritize and manage facility maintenance requests to ensure timely resolution of issues affecting production, safety, or employee comfort.
Oversee outside contractors and service providers performing facility repairs, construction, and maintenance projects.
Identify facility improvement opportunities and develop capital improvement plans.
Support emergency repairs and troubleshooting of building systems to minimize operational disruptions.
Ensure building systems comply with OSHA, environmental, fire protection, and local code requirements.
Manage facility-related budgets and maintenance expenditures.
Maintain records for building inspections, maintenance activities, equipment repairs, permits, and contractor services.
Support long-term facility planning and infrastructure upgrades to accommodate future growth and manufacturing requirements.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, throughput, and process reliability.
Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve productivity.
Analyze production and maintenance data to identify trends and drive measurable improvements.
Support Kaizen events and structured problem-solving activities.
Support implementation of best practices across manufacturing operations.
Improve manufacturing processes through automation, standardization, and equipment optimization.
Quality & Operational Excellence
Partner with Quality and Manufacturing teams to improve process capability and reduce defects.
Support corrective and preventive action programs related to manufacturing and testing operations.
Ensure reliability and tooling initiatives align with IDEAL Electric's commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and customer satisfaction.
Assist in developing work instructions, manufacturing procedures, and process documentation.
Support process audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Safety & Compliance
Promote a culture of safety throughout the facility.
Participate in risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
Support environmental and regulatory compliance initiatives.
Ensure all equipment installations, tooling designs, and facility projects meet applicable safety standards and ergonomic requirements.
Lead safety improvements related to equipment reliability and facility operations.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, reliability engineering, maintenance engineering, tooling design, facility maintenance, or capital equipment projects.
Experience designing and implementing manufacturing tooling, fixtures, workholding systems, and production support equipment.
Experience specifying, purchasing, installing, and commissioning manufacturing equipment.
Experience managing facility maintenance and industrial infrastructure systems.
Strong knowledge of machining, fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and industrial manufacturing processes.
Experience conducting Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and project management skills.
Proficiency with CAD software and Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
Preferred
Experience with electric motor, generator, rotating equipment, or heavy industrial manufacturing.
Experience with stamping dies, metal fabrication, welding, machining, and custom manufacturing environments.
Knowledge of predictive maintenance technologies including vibration analysis, thermography, and condition monitoring.
Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification.
Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP).
Experience with ERP and CMMS systems.
Experience managing capital projects and equipment installations.
