About this opportunity:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, SCM Projects, this role leads the development and execution of category management, sourcing, contracting, and supplier relationship strategies for Engineering and Fabrication services across Cenovus's Upstream and Downstream operations.
As the Category Manager for assigned portfolios, the incumbent is responsible for category strategy development, sourcing and contracting activities, supplier performance management, and delivering value through effective commercial solutions. Working closely with project teams and business stakeholders, the role supports project and operational objectives by aligning procurement strategies with business needs, schedules, and budgets.
The position also contributes to broader Supply Chain Management initiatives, including RFx management, contract administration, spend analysis, supplier management, systems support, and performance reporting across North America
What you’ll do:
Lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of category strategies for Engineering and Fabrication portfolios, ensuring alignment with business objectives, project requirements, and supply chain priorities.
Serve as the primary commercial lead for assigned categories, building long-term sourcing strategies, strengthening supplier relationships, and identifying opportunities to create business value.
Conduct market intelligence, supplier evaluations, cost modeling, and pricing analyses to manage risk, improve competitiveness, and support informed sourcing decisions.
Lead complex sourcing and contracting activities, including supplier prequalification, RFx development, commercial evaluations, negotiations, contract awards, and execution.
Partner with Capital Projects, Engineering, Construction, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver sourcing and contracting solutions that support project schedules, budgets, and operational goals.
Manage contract and supplier performance throughout the contract lifecycle, including KPI monitoring, change management, dispute resolution, claims management, and contract closeout activities.
Ensure commercial activities comply with company policies, governance requirements, and industry standards while maintaining accurate contract documentation and records.
Provide leadership and mentorship across the SCM team while supporting broader supply chain initiatives, supplier relationship management programs, performance reporting, and continuous improvement efforts
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada.
Post-secondary degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Commerce, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and are legally entitled to work in Canada.
8+ years of progressive experience in supply chain management, strategic sourcing, category management, procurement, contract management, or related commercial roles.
Proven experience developing and executing category strategies, leading complex sourcing initiatives, negotiating commercial agreements, and managing supplier relationships.
Experience supporting capital projects and managed contracts related to engineering services, fabrication, construction, industrial services, or similar categories.
Strong business and financial acumen, with experience leveraging data analysis and reporting to drive informed decision-making and value creation.
Solid understanding of sourcing, contracting, supplier management lifecycles, Procure-to-Pay (P2P) processes, and governance principles.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while delivering accurate, high-quality results.
Effective communicator and relationship builder with strong stakeholder management skills; experience with SAP, Ariba, professional supply chain certifications (SCMP, CSCP, CIPS, ISM), or large-scale capital projects in the energy, industrial, construction, or manufacturing sectors is considered an asset.
We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.
Note: The application deadline for this position is 11:59 PM MT August 23, 2026.
