Schedule

• Clinic Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Saturday Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
• Rotation: Every 5th or 6th Saturday

Position Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides direct patient care under the supervision of a physician, nurse, and/or Practice Manager while maintaining a professional, compassionate, and patient-centered approach. The CMA supports providers during examinations and procedures, assists with clinical documentation, patient education, and coordination of care, and may cross-train in reception duties and provide coverage at HMC satellite clinics as needed.

Essential Responsibilities

• Prepare patient charts, visit paperwork, and exam rooms prior to appointments.
• Welcome patients, obtain vital signs, medical history, current medications, and chief complaint while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
• Assist providers during examinations and procedures.
• Complete accurate clinical documentation within the electronic medical record.
• Prepare laboratory and diagnostic imaging requisitions.
• Perform clinical procedures and competencies within scope of certification.
• Educate patients regarding medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
• Communicate physician-reviewed test results and instructions to patients.
• Answer incoming phone calls professionally and route clinical concerns appropriately.
• Coordinate referrals and specialty appointments.
• Assist with filing, scanning, and maintaining patient medical records.
• Cross-train to assist with front office reception duties as needed.
• Support specialty providers including Cardiology, Orthopedics, Spine, Urology, and other specialty clinics.
• Maintain stocked, clean, and organized exam rooms.
• Monitor medication samples and remove expired products.
• Assist with infection prevention, instrument sterilization, and overall clinic cleanliness.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification through a nationally recognized certifying organization is required.
• CPR/BLS certification required or ability to obtain upon hire.
• Venipuncture experience preferred.
• Flexibility to work at HMC satellite clinic locations as needed.
• Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Professional, dependable, and team-oriented.
• Must be available to participate in the Saturday rotation.

• Constantly (67–100% of the time): Standing, walking, talking, hearing, near visual acuity, and use of hands and fingers for patient care, documentation, and operation of clinical equipment.
• Frequently (34–66% of the time): Reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and assisting patients with mobility as needed.
• Occasionally (11–33% of the time): Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and pushing or pulling wheelchairs and other patient transport equipment.
• Rarely (Less than 10% of the time): Climbing ladders or working at heights.

Additional physical requirements include:

• Ability to perform close visual work, including reading medical records, medication labels, and computer screens.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and coworkers.
• Ability to maintain manual dexterity for clinical procedures and documentation.

All Hopedale Medical Complex employees are required to successfully complete state and federal background checks and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Testing includes both illegal substances and legal substances, including cannabis (THC).
