The Nurse Practitioner (Adult) will provide comprehensive, patient‑centered care across inpatient and outpatient settings for individuals experiencing acute and complex traumatic injuries, including polytrauma, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, hemorrhage, and other high‑acuity conditions. The Nurse Practitioner will perform advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management, supporting patients throughout the continuum of trauma care from admission through recovery and follow‑up.
In this role, the Nurse Practitioner will closely monitor patient status, recognize and respond to clinical deterioration, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. The Nurse Practitioner will coordinate and support trauma care plans, facilitate timely follow‑up, and contribute to safe and effective transitions in care, with a focus on optimizing functional outcomes, recovery, and quality of life.
The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively within an interprofessional trauma team, contributing to clinical decision‑making, patient and family education, and care coordination across services.
In addition to direct patient care, the Nurse Practitioner will play a key role in trauma program development, quality improvement, research, education, and clinical consultation. Responsibilities will evolve in collaboration with program leadership to support trauma system priorities, including performance improvement, patient flow, and integration across the continuum of trauma care.
1. Current Certification of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse, Extended Class with Nurse Practitioner (Adult) 2. Masters Degree in Nursing and/or equivalent graduate Degree 3. Minimum of five (5) years recent clinical experience supporting a population of acute neuroscience patients 4. Demonstrated experience in research and program development 5. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and competency to work within interprofessional teams 6. Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills 7. Demonstrated ability to promote professional development in nursing 8. Eligible for Faculty appointment with McMaster University
