I. TITLE OF POSITION: Delivery Driver – Pharmacy & Purchasing/Central Supply

II. NATURE OF POSITION: The Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely transport of pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and purchasing/central supply orders on behalf of Great Salt Plains Health Center. This position serves both the Pharmacy and Purchasing/Central Supply departments and requires strong judgment in prioritizing time-sensitive medical deliveries – particularly urgent patient medication needs – over routine supply runs. The ideal candidate is dependable, discreet, safety-conscious, and committed to serving the patients of Great Salt Plains Health Center.

III. QUALIFICATIONS:

A. High school diploma or equivalent required

B. Valid Oklahoma driver’s license, in good standing; must remain current throughout employment

C. Clean driving record – no DUI/DWI convictions; motor vehicle record (MVR) will be verified

D. Must be insurable under the organization’s vehicle insurance policy

E. Must be able to pass a background check, including criminal history screening

F. Demonstrated reliability, trustworthiness, and punctuality – essential to patient safety

G. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient information with discretion; HIPAA training will be provided

H. Basic reading and communication skills sufficient to verify orders, follow routes, and communicate with supervisors

I. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted

J. Prior experience in medical, pharmacy, or healthcare delivery preferred but not required

K. Familiarity with the Enid/Northwest Oklahoma service area preferred

IV. SALARY GRADE AND CLASSIFICATIONS: Non-Exempt

V. RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Pharmacy

VI. SUPPORTIVE/CHARGE RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Pick up filled prescriptions and other pharmacy items daily and deliver them promptly, accurately, and securely to patients and/or clinic sites

B. Prioritize pharmacy deliveries – particularly urgent patient medication needs (e.g., insulin or other time-critical medications) – above all other delivery duties. When a conflict arises between a supply run and an urgent patient medication need, the driver must notify both supervisors immediately and defer the supply run

C. Maintain the security, integrity, and appropriate temperature conditions of all medications throughout the delivery process

D. Obtain patient/recipient signature confirming receipt of medications at time of delivery

E. Communicate delivery issues (e.g., patient not home, incorrect address, refusal of delivery) to pharmacy personnel promptly

F. Handle and secure any co-payments collected from patients and return them to the pharmacy per established procedures

G. Transport purchasing orders, medical supplies, and central supply items between facility locations and from vendors/suppliers as directed; verify delivery contents against purchase orders or packing slips and report any discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor

H. Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections; maintain a clean and organized delivery vehicle; report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately

I. Plan and optimize delivery routes, accounting for traffic, weather, and delivery urgency; operate all organization vehicles in a safe and lawful manner

J. Maintain accurate, up-to-date delivery logs and records for all deliveries; follow all applicable state and federal regulations related to the transport of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies

K. Maintain confidentiality of all patient information encountered during delivery in compliance with HIPAA

L. Complete required HIPAA, safety, and compliance training as assigned; participate in all required safety programs and staff meetings

M. Assist with additional pharmacy or purchasing duties as directed by supervisors when not performing deliveries

N. Perform other duties as assigned
