JobSummary:The Director of Facilities is responsible for the strategic planning, management, and oversight of all facility operations within a healthcare organization. This role ensures that buildings and infrastructure are safe, compliant, efficient, and aligned with patient care objectives. The Director leads maintenance, safety programs, and capital projects while ensuring regulatory compliance and operational excellence. Prepares engineering-maintenance capital and operating budgets annually along with providing cost estimates for renovations/construction. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, NFPA, state/local codes). Works in close cooperation with public utility companies as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
Provide leadership and direction for all facilities operations including maintenance, utilities and building/grounds.
Develop and implement departmental goals aligned with organizational strategy.
Manage and mentor facilities staff, including hiring, training, performance management, and succession planning.
Oversee daily operations to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
Maintain readiness for inspections and surveys.
Develop and manage safety programs, including emergency preparedness, fire safety, and disaster response.
Serve as Environment of Care (EOC) leader for the “fire management” plan, and committee chair, if necessary.
Facilities Maintenance & Engineering
Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs for all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, etc.).
Ensure reliability and efficiency of critical infrastructure systems.
Implement asset management planning program.
Capital Planning & Project Management
Lead capital planning initiatives and manage budgets for facility upgrades and renovations.
Oversee construction and renovation projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and compliance requirements are met.
Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders on space planning and infrastructure needs.
Budgeting & Financial Management
Develop and manage operating and capital budgets.
Monitor expenses and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or safety.
Manage vendor contracts and service agreements as they pertain to engineering/facilities.
Vendor & Contract Management
Negotiate and manage relationships with contractors, suppliers, and service providers.
Ensure vendor performance meets contractual and regulatory requirements.
Secondary Job Duties:
May be required to attend meetings out of town.
Recycles all recyclable material when possible.
Performs any other jobs assigned.
