Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center, located in Los Angeles, is a non-profit organization that provides an array of comprehensive mental health services for Children, Adolescents, Transitional Aged Youth, and Adults suffering from mental illness in the Greater Los Angeles area. The organization consists of a standalone fifty-five (55) )-bed hospital and six outlying outpatient facilities that have anywhere from fourteen (14) beds to one hundred and thirty-four (134) beds. The organization has approximately four hundred (400) employees.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
We are seeking a highly motivated pre- or post-doctoral psychology trainee or pre-licensure clinician to join our interdisciplinary team at a hospital-based setting that provides comprehensive psychological assessment services to children and adults across outpatient and residential treatment programs. The clinician will conduct psychological evaluations to support diagnostic clarification, treatment planning, and referral decisions for diverse and clinically complex populations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Conduct intake interviews, record reviews, and collateral contacts to inform assessment planning
Administer, score, and interpret a wide range of standardized psychological, cognitive, educational, and personality tests
Write comprehensive, integrated psychological reports with diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations
Present findings to treatment teams, clients, and/or families as appropriate
Participate in weekly supervision with licensed psychologists and attend team meetings as needed
Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with hospital policies and ethical guidelines
Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff across clinical settings
Provide mentorship to intern and practicum level students as needed
Assist with training program development (APA) and development of the testing center programming
Ongoing individual and group supervision provided by licensed psychologists
Opportunities for didactics, case conferences, and interdisciplinary collaboration
Position may be structured to meet clinical training hours toward doctoral internship, postdoctoral residency, or licensure requirements, depending on individual needs and qualifications
Performs other additional tasks as directed.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Strong foundational knowledge of psychological testing instruments, including but not limited to:
Cognitive and neuropsychological (e.g., WISC-V, WAIS-IV, D-KEFS)
Academic/achievement (e.g., WIAT-4, WRAT-5)
Behavioral/personality (e.g., BASC-3, MMPI-3, PAI)
Diagnostic tools (e.g., ADOS-2, structured interviews)
Excellent report-writing, critical thinking, and case formulation skills
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage clinical documentation and case materials.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain testing timelines while integrating supervision
Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and ethical clinical practice
Experience working with neurodiverse populations, individuals with severe mental illness, or those involved in systems of care (e.g., child welfare, juvenile justice)
Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) Carelogic /Netsmart
Bilingual abilities (Spanish or other language) are highly valued
QualificationsEDUCATION & CERTIFICATES
Currently enrolled in or recently completed an accredited doctoral program (APA Preferred) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology (PhD or PsyD)
Must be registered as a Psychological Assistant with the California Board of Psychology or eligible and willing to register (per Section 2913 of the Business and Professions Code using Form PSB 100).
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 3 years of prior assessment experience (e.g., school, hospital, or community mental health settings)
The ability to work with diverse clients including children, adolescents, and adults
Strong ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including psychiatry, social work, educational professionals, and case management
All testing and assessment must be carried out in person at the Main Hospital clinic.
Opportunities for report writing from home are available once competency is established.
REQUIREMENTS
Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance.
Valid California Driver’s license.
TB clearance.
Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier.
