Position Title: Associate Major Gifts Officer
Location: Remote, with travel for cultivation and stewardship events

The Role

Manage a portfolio of mid-level donors and emerging major donor prospects, building relationships, increasing engagement, and advancing donors toward deeper investment in the organization. Alongside individual portfolio management, this role owns the one-to-many fundraising program for annual fund donors — a combination of digital outreach, targeted communications, and virtual community moments designed to keep this audience connected and moving toward deeper engagement. This role works closely across the development team on program execution, and requires comfort both designing a cultivation email series and speaking directly with a donor who has just made their first $2,500 gift.

The organization operates across two entities with distinct compliance requirements: Galvanize USA (501(c)(3), tax-deductible contributions and Galvanize Action (501(c)(4), supporting persuasion programming. The Associate MGO must understand the distinctions between these entities and keep all donor communications appropriately scoped.

Core Responsibilities

 

Portfolio Management, Mid-Level Contributors

• Manage a portfolio of mid-level donors and emerging major donor prospects, with an emphasis on those who have the capacity to grow their investment over time.
• Build genuine relationships with portfolio donors through consistent, personalized outreach, including calls, handwritten notes, impact briefings, and invitations to relevant events.
• Develop and execute tailored cultivation and solicitation plans for each donor in the portfolio, in coordination with the Director of Individual Giving.
• Use research and evaluation findings — including RCT results, tracking survey data, and program impact updates — as tools for donor conversation and stewardship, connecting each donor to the evidence behind the work their gift supports.
• Identify donors in the portfolio with the capacity and inclination to move into a major gifts relationship, and work with the Director to structure appropriate upgrade pathways and introductions.
• Track all activity in EveryAction with rigor and consistency, maintaining accurate contact records, call notes, next steps, and gift dates across the full portfolio.

One-to-Many Fundraising, Annual Fund

• Own the strategy and execution of the one-to-many fundraising program for annual fund donors, including the content calendar, communication cadence, and revenue targets, in coordination with the Director of Individual Giving.
• Design and deploy digital outreach — including email appeals, cultivation sequences, and upgrade campaigns — that reflect the voice and values of the organization and keep donors in this range connected to the work.
• Build and manage a calendar of virtual community moments, including online briefings, research share-outs, and donor conversations, designed to deepen engagement for this segment and move promising donors toward individual cultivation.
• Ensure program content is accurate, well-timed, and aligned with the broader cultivation strategy across entities.
• Use data and testing to refine the program over time, tracking open rates, conversion rates, upgrade rates, and retention across the donor segment.

Stewardship and Retention

• Ensure that every portfolio donor receives timely, meaningful stewardship that connects them to the impact of their gift.
• Develop differentiated stewardship approaches for donors at different levels, balancing personalization with the scale requirements of a one-to-many program.
• Write and send personalized acknowledgments, impact updates, and year-end communications for portfolio donors.
• Keep all stewardship communications appropriately scoped to the entity the donor has given to, with clear, accurate messaging about the purpose of each entity's programming.

Compliance and Entity Clarity

• Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the distinctions between Galvanize USA (c3) and Galvanize Action (c4)), and apply that knowledge to every donor communication.
• Flag any compliance questions before sending communications or making solicitations that touch multiple entities.

Team and Systems

• Maintain strong EveryAction discipline across the full portfolio and one-to-many program, with consistent documentation of every donor touchpoint, gift, and next step.
• Participate in regular portfolio reviews with the Director of Individual Giving and the broader development team.
• Contribute to the team's collective knowledge of the donor base, flagging patterns, opportunities, and risks as they emerge.
• All employees of Hopewell Fund are required to complete timesheets every two weeks.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications, Education, and Experience

• Three or more years of fundraising experience, with direct experience managing a donor portfolio and building genuine relationships with mid-level or major donors.
• Experience with one-to-many fundraising programs, including digital appeals, cultivation sequences, and community-based donor engagement.
• Experience with EveryAction or a comparable CRM, with a real commitment to documentation discipline.
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the US. We are not able to sponsor visas at this time.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong writing skills, with the ability to produce donor communications that feel personal, specific, and grounded in the organization’s work.
• A relational orientation, genuine warmth, and the ability to earn trust with donors across a range of giving levels and backgrounds.
• The ability to manage a portfolio and a program at the same time, with strong organizational instincts and a track record of following through on both relationships and tasks.
• Genuine affinity for the mission and an understanding of the cultural and political landscape in which Galvanize operates.
• Ability to travel as needed for cultivation events, regional salons, and donor meetings throughout the year.

Valued and Non-Essential Characteristics

• Deep familiarity with the compliance structure of a multi-entity organization — or a demonstrated eagerness to learn it quickly.

Compensation & Benefits

The starting salary range for this position is $88,000-95,000. Placement within this band will be determined based on years of prior experience and relevant skills. Galvanize USA also offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in the 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 120 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment.
