Job DetailsOps Maintenance Supervisor

Who We Are

Fareva is a leading contract manufacturer of pharmaceutical and personal care products. Located at the intersection of Darbytown Road and Laburnum Avenue in Eastern Henrico County, our climate-controlled facility covers over 745,000 square feet and employs 600 full-time employees. We operate across three shifts; while this is a 1st shift position, candidates must be flexible to cover 2nd or 3rd shifts as needed.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor will maintain the steady and compliant operation of high-tech automated equipment and drive continual improvement through electrical/PLC technology. Work spans electronics, electrical control systems, server and process control, hydraulics/pneumatics, basic mechanical skills, and computer literacy. The individual will orchestrate these activities in an environment of teamwork utilizing FAREVA’s values.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

Under the direction of the Director of Engineering & Maintenance, the supervisor manages activities associated with current and new business, production, and project completion to meet customer demand.

Strategy & Project Management

Develop & implement the long-term maintenance strategy to enable operational efficiency.
Projects: Play a significant role for production projects, new equipment, and new maintenance systems.
Manage projects to support new business, improve equipment, labor efficiencies, material flow, and documentation.
Drives and supports the implementation of process improvements for equipment needed to maintain quality in a competitive cost structure.
With the support of the department manager, develops appropriate analyses of facilities, equipment, and staff to quantify capacities, constraints, and department capabilities.
Serves as a key contributor in the development of factory direction, goals, operating and capital budgets, labor planning, and financial accountability.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

Oversees Maintenance personnel and assists with troubleshooting various types of filling and packaging equipment, including electromechanical aspects.
Assists personnel with troubleshooting programmable logic controllers (PLCs), operator interfaces, variable frequency drives, servomotors, and encoders.
Assists with basic electrical troubleshooting and repair (starters, fuses, relays, wire blocks, wiring, breakers, etc.).
Diagnoses electrical-based discrepancies on equipment with or without the use of blueprints.
Discerns complex electrical drawings and correlates them to actual equipment/circuit layout.
Inspects electrical control systems to trace circuitry or pinpoint potential problem areas.
Provides written methods of operation and control of electronic systems.

Operations & Preventative Maintenance

Manage the Preventative Maintenance System in SAP.
Organize and align preventative maintenance on all aspects of equipment maintenance in a safe manner.
Analyzes and interprets downtime and OEE data, using this data to design and implement improvements.
Responsible for ensuring that equipment, employees, and means of production are in place and performing according to defined standards.
Assists with confirming repair parts needed to be ordered.
Manage direct labor variance and material usage variance to a favorable average each month.
Supports and represents the Director of Engineering & Maintenance during absences, delegated assignments, and scheduling conflicts.

Safety & Compliance

Responsible for maintaining the validated state of equipment, directly impacting product quality.
Adheres strictly to all cGMP’s, PPG’s, regulatory, and safety standards to ensure the quality and integrity of products and employee safety.
Ensures compliance with Corporate (SCI, cGMP's) guidelines, State, and Federal Requirements (FDA, OSHA, EPA).
Ensures all machine guards, interlocks, and other safety devices are properly installed and maintained.
Follows established lockout procedures (LOTO) and identifies situational hazards.
Keeps working area in a clean and orderly condition according to PPG’s and 5S principles.

Teamwork & Leadership

Maintains productive working relationships as part of a production team and works alongside maintenance personnel in troubleshooting efforts.
Communicates problems and solutions in an appropriate manner, taking direction from multiple sources.
Interfaces daily with support departments including Quality Assurance, HR, Materials Management, Technical Services, Engineering, Training, and Site Management.
Participates in interviewing and identifying new talent (mechanics and electricians) and administers STM testing on potential mechanical applicants.

Preferred Requirements

Education and Experience

BS/BA in Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
Must have a background in both Electrical and Mechanical trades.
A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a production/manufacturing environment AND/OR a minimum of 3 to 5 years in a direct supervision/management role.
Background should ideally be in Consumer Goods, Cosmetic, or Pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging.
Extensive experience in managing a large hourly and exempt workforce is required.
It is essential the incumbent possess a strong floor presence.
Candidate should possess an education and/or background to support a strong focus on project implementation, improvement of process/equipment, and operational effectiveness.
