Introduction

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) is the national governing body for football in Ireland, driving the growth, promotion, and development of the game at all levels. Purpose of the Role

The National Coach Developer will lead the delivery and development of the FAI’s Coach Development programmes, supporting coaches from entry-level to UEFA licence pathways. The role will create and deliver high-quality formal and informal learning opportunities, enhance coach skills and knowledge, and contribute to the professional growth of coaches across Ireland.



Key Responsibilities

Coach Development Pathways

  • Deliver formal coaching courses crossing the full Coach Development Pathway, from entry-level to UEFA qualifications.
  • Facilitate engaging, inclusive, and high-quality learning environments in both classroom and on-pitch settings.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring, observation, and feedback to support coaches’ development beyond formal courses.
  • Develop and maintain informal learning initiatives, including communities of practice, workshops, peer learning, and online forums.
  • Contribute to the design and enhancement of coach development materials, resources, and assessment processes.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent the FAI at regional and national events, promoting coaching excellence and development programmes.
  • Collaborate with Regional FAI staff, tutors, mentors, and player development programmes to ensure alignment across pathways.
  • Build partnerships with educational institutions.

Person Specification

Experience and Qualifications

Essential:

  • UEFA B Licence.
  • Track record in designing, delivering, and evaluating coach development programmes.
  • Significant coaching and/or coach development experience.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting coaches in formal and informal settings.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Strong administrative skills and familiarity with relevant IT systems.
  • Experience managing projects and working collaboratively.
  • Experience delivering learner-centred, reality-based coaching environments.
  • Strong understanding of the UEFA Coaching Convention and FAI Coach Education framework.
  • Full Clean Driving licence.

Desirable:

  • UEFA A Licence or higher
  • Experience as a Coach Developer, Tutor, or Mentor in a recognised association.
  • QQI Coach Developer Level 7.
  • Formal training or qualification in coach education, sports coaching, or adult learning.
  • Experience using digital learning tools and blended education approaches.
  • Knowledge of the Irish football structure and grassroots-to-elite pathways.
