Overview

Exagen Inc. is a leading provider of autoimmune diagnostics, committed to transforming care for patients with chronic and debilitating autoimmune conditions. Based in San Diego County, Calif., Exagen’s mission is to provide clarity in autoimmune disease decision making and improve clinical outcomes through its innovative testing portfolio. The company's flagship product, AVISE® CTD, enables clinicians to more effectively diagnose complex autoimmune conditions such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and Sjögren's disease earlier and with greater accuracy. Exagen’s laboratory specializes in the testing of rheumatic diseases, delivering precise and timely results, supported by a full suite of AVISE-branded tests for disease diagnosis, prognosis, and monitoring. With a focus on research, innovation, education, and patient-centered care, Exagen is dedicated to addressing the ongoing challenges of autoimmune disease management.

The Marketing Manager serves as the primary liaison between Marketing, Sales, Clinical Affairs, and Medical Affairs. This role develops clinically accurate, commercially effective content and tools that support the sales team, healthcare professionals, patients and Exagen’s broader marketing objectives. The position joins the Marketing team at an important stage of growth, with several high-visibility initiatives underway across brand, digital, product marketing, clinical education, and sales enablement. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape these programs and contribute meaningfully to how Exagen communicates its science and value to the market.

Responsibilities

  • The ideal candidate is a strong healthcare marketer and writer who can translate complex scientific information into clear, compelling, and compliant communications.
  • Develop clinical and product content, including brochures, presentations, sales tools, website copy, training materials, emails, and disease-state education.
  • Translate clinical evidence, biomarker science, and product information into clear messaging for healthcare professional, patients and commercial audiences.
  • Partner with Sales to identify field needs, customer questions, content gaps, and sales enablement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Affairs and Medical Affairs to ensure scientific accuracy and appropriate clinical context.
  • Act as a cross-functional facilitator, bringing together Sales, Clinical Affairs, Medical Affairs, and Marketing to align priorities, clarify requirements, reconcile feedback, and move projects efficiently from concept through approval and launch.
  • Manage materials through medical, regulatory, legal, and compliance review.
  • Support product launches, campaigns, and conferences.
  • Maintain consistent product claims, positioning, terminology, and references across materials.
  • Lead projects from initial concept through review, production, launch, and measurement.
  • Manage external writers, designers, agencies, and vendors as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, life sciences, healthcare, or a related field.
  • Minimum five or more years of healthcare, diagnostics, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or medical device marketing experience.
  • Experience developing clinical or scientific content for healthcare professionals.
  • Experience partnering with sales teams and creating sales enablement materials.
  • Strong writing, editing, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate clinical data and peer-reviewed research.
  • Experience working with Medical Affairs, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory, or Compliance teams.
  • Experience in diagnostics, autoimmune disease, rheumatology, immunology, or laboratory medicine is preferred.

Our mission is to bring clarity to complex autoimmune diseases by empowering physicians, and our partners across healthcare and biopharma, with advanced testing solutions that enable earlier, more accurate diagnoses and better patient outcomes. Through our AVISE® testing portfolio, we deliver the industry’s most comprehensive rheumatology diagnostic platform — integrating serology, cell-based assays, proprietary biomarkers, and a validated algorithm. Exagen is the only company to offer CB-CAPS, T Cell markers, anti-PAD4 and anti-RA33 testing commercially, and the pioneer in clinically validating these biomarkers for SLE and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), respectively. We also provide the industry’s leading lupus (SLE) diagnostic, prognostic, and disease-monitoring tests, setting the benchmark for accuracy and clinical confidence.
