Responsibilities

Lead the equipment engineering function to maximize the uptime of the current 4MWh pilot line and design the expansion for a 100MWh+ production line. This includes managing vendor sourcing, facility layout, and ensuring compliance with US safety standards during installation.

Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and 5+ years of experience in manufacturing equipment engineering, preferably within the lithium-ion battery industry. Candidates must have a proven track record of launching greenfield factories and proficiency in CAD software.

Full job description

Coreshell's metallurgical Silicon anode technology delivers high capacity, fast-charging, and superior safety. Our low-cost Silicon-dominant batteries have higher energy density, superior intrinsic thermal safety, and significantly lower cost/kWh compared to current LIBs. Coreshell's Si anode material is lower than the cost of graphite and utilizes the largest abundant critical mineral supply in the US and Europe. We strive to transform the global energy and transportation market by enabling cost effective and secure domestic battery supply.

Position:  As the Senior Manager of Equipment Engineering, you will lead the equipment engineering function to support both our current pilot operations and our future high-volume manufacturing expansion. You will be responsible for two critical phases: maximizing the uptime and capability of our existing 4MWh pilot line, and leading the equipment planning, vendor sourcing, and facility layout design for our upcoming 100MWh+ production line (covering electrode, assembly, and formation).

Core Responsibilities

  • Stabilization & Maintenance (Current 4MWh Line)

Comprehensive Maintenance Ownership: Establish and oversee structured Preventive, and Breakdown Maintenance. Ensure minimal equipment downtime.

  • Vendor Management & Support: Manage relationships with equipment vendors,  and drive vendors to provide maximum technical and troubleshooting support.
  • Supporting production with system: Apply advanced smart factory technologies, such as Fault Detection and Classification (FDC), to monitor equipment health and predict failures. Integrate essential equipment-side solutions including Manufacturing Execution System (MES) connectivity to track production data.
  • Equipment Optimization: Identify hardware bottlenecks and implement engineering modifications to improve OEE, yield, and throughput.
  • Production Line Expansion (100MWh+ Scale)
    • Capacity Planning & Layout Design: Calculate and plan baseline equipment CAPA based on the target cell specifications. Design the comprehensive plant layout, including material flow, automated equipment placement, and necessary environmental/dry room facilities.
    • Equipment Spec Design: Build a robust global vendor pool for electrode, assembly, and formation/aging equipment. Draft highly detailed equipment technical specifications and Request for Quotes (RFQs) to the vendors.
    • Equipment Sourcing & Evaluation: Manage the bidding process, conduct rigorous technical comparisons between different equipment vendors, and lead global Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
    • Installation & Commissioning: Lead the physical installation and commissioning of all machinery. Ensure strict compliance with US occupational health and safety standards (e.g., OSHA, UL field evaluations, and Local AHJ codes) to guarantee a safe working environment for operators.
  • Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Collaborative Scale-up: Work closely with cell development, production team, and process technology team to align the equipment expansion roadmap with Coreshell’s strategic commercialization timelines.
    • Process Development Support: Actively collaborate with process process technology team and translate new process requirements into reliable equipment hardware modifications.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical or Electrical engineering is plus).
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in manufacturing equipment engineering (Lithium-ion battery industry highly preferred).
  • Direct experience launching greenfield factories, executing FAT/SAT, and managing equipment scaling programs.
  • Proven experience in designing equipment technical specifications based on final product and process requirements.
  • Experience in equipment maintenance frameworks (PM, CBM, BM) and systematic tools like FDC, MES, or other smart factory systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for factory layout.
  • Familiarity with US safety regulations (OSHA, UL, AHJ codes) and operator health standards.

Soft Skills:

  • A proactive "hands-on" troubleshooter who leads from the shop floor.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to manage global equipment suppliers and extract maximum support.

Location & Benefits: San Leandro, CA. Full-time. $160,000-185,000. Salary and equity options dependent on experience. Dental, vision, healthcare and 401(k) benefits are included. Applications will be screened as received.

American energy resilience is here. China’s monopoly on critical minerals for batteries is over. Coreshell’s breakthrough anode technology using 100% American metallurgical silicon outperforms Chinese graphite by 30%, with unmatched stability and safety. The Coreshell Battery drops into standard machines without requiring retooling. Standard manufacturing equipment allows for rapid scaling on demand. Coreshell's technology is the only solution with the scale to fully replace Chinese graphite in the battery supply chain today, not years from now.
