Wages

$20.00 per hour

Schedule

This is a temporary, part-time position (35 hours per week) that requires availability on weekends and regular travel across various regions in Minnesota. This position is expected to run through November 4, 2026.

 

Job Summary

COPAL is hiring 10 Canvassers to engage in voter outreach and community engagement initiatives to build Latine power across Minnesota.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach in designated neighborhoods to educate residents about our programs and initiatives.
  • Build rapport and trust within the community to foster open dialogue and encourage participation.
  • Distribute informational materials and collect feedback from community members.
  • Make outgoing calls to community members to inform them about services, events, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Engage in meaningful conversations to answer questions and address concerns.
  • Record and maintain accurate data regarding outreach efforts and community responses.
  • Collaborate with team members or key stakeholders to identify key issues affecting the Latine Community.
  • Participate in training sessions to enhance your knowledge and effectiveness in outreach efforts.
  • Attend community events and meetings as needed to represent COPAL.
  • Gather and provide data to support the production of work.
  • Participate in fundraising as appropriate to the role, including site visits with funders and phone banking to increase membership/donor support.

 

What You Bring

  • At least one year of experience in organizing (community, politics, advocacy, community leadership, etc).
  • Previous experience in initiating conversations with community members about experiences, hopes, fears and challenges.
  • You are a rational leader with the ability to work with a broad team of staff and grassroots leaders, work well with others in a coalition setting, and motivate people with different viewpoints.
  • Previous experience in canvassing, phone banking, or community outreach is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with political campaigns and a strong commitment to continuous learning.
  • The ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge and experience with diverse groups of people of all socioeconomic conditions.
  • Demonstrated skills in conflict management.
  • Competency in MS Office: Word, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • A valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet COPAL’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit.
