Contineum is advancing a pipeline of internally-developed programs with multiple drug candidates now in clinical trials. PIPE-791 is an LPA1 receptor antagonist in clinical development for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and chronic pain. PIPE-307 is a selective inhibitor of the M1 receptor in clinical development for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis and major depressive disorder. Job Summary: The Sr. Director, Human Resources is the head of HR at Contineum Therapeutics. The Sr. Director, Human Resources is responsible for both strategic and hands-on tactical implementation of all HR functions, including talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, leave of absence administration, compliance, employee relations, performance management, HRIS administration, employee development, engagement, and retention. The Sr. Director, Human Resources develops programs and processes that support corporate objectives and drive employee engagement and retention. The Sr. Director, Human Resources provides strategic HR guidance and support to company leadership and employees.

Location: This is a hybrid role out of the San Diego office. Relocation will not be provided. Visa sponsorship is not available.

  • Partner closely with the CEO and executive leadership to develop and implement HR strategies and programs that support corporate objectives
  • Develop, lead, and administer compensation and benefits programs, ensuring competitiveness and equity. Partnering closely with 3rd party compensation consultants and CFO
  • Drive the talent acquisition strategy and resources to attract and retain top talent; perform and oversee recruiting efforts
  • Manage employee retention and engagement programs and recommend improvements and new initiatives
  • Lead and manage the performance management process; work with managers to identify and address performance issues
  • Consult, advise, and coach executive leadership in HR, people, and organizational matters
  • Collaborate with leaders on organizational design and implementation and recommend and develop programs to promote employee development
  • Monitor employee engagement and develop HR programs that evaluate and maintain engagement
  • Ensure HR policies and practices comply with local, state, and federal regulations and employment law
  • Manage all HR systems, including maintenance, data analysis, reports, and knowledge of systems
  • Address and resolve employee relations issues and conduct employee investigations as necessary
  • Perform hands-on, day-to-day HR administration and direction, such as managing recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new employees; developing, updating, and communicating procedures and policies; performing benefits and leave of absence administration; ensuring legal compliance; and providing daily assistance as needed
  • Collaborate closely with the Accounting & Finance department on payroll and people-related budget and expenses
  • Monitor the HR department budget and resources
  • Perform other responsibilities as business needs require
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management or a related field
  • Minimum 8-10 years of related experience with 1-2 years in an HR leadership role
  • Prior experience in the life sciences industry preferred
  • HRCI or SHRM certification preferred
  • Extensive and broad knowledge in HR functional areas and legal compliance
  • Demonstrated leader willing to be hands-on and strategically focused
  • Strong business acumen and ability to articulate information to others
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to extensively collaborate, as well as lead, drive, and execute independently
  • Capable of building trusting relationships with leaders and employees and operating with a high level of integrity
  • Advanced attention to detail, sound judgment, adaptability, and initiative

We offer a competitive total compensation package and work in a supportive team environment. The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego, CA, is $215,000 - $230,000 annually. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Contineum offers competitive compensation and benefits, including:
