SCOPE OF WORK
We are internally seeking an outgoing and community-minded Senior Program Specialist to join our CalVIP (California Violence Intervention and Prevention) program within the Community Initiatives Department. In this role, you'll connect at-risk youth and families with recreation, leadership, and enrichment opportunities - building relationships with schools, community organizations, and families to reduce barriers to participation and open doors for young people across our community.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Conduct outreach to at-risk youth and families to increase awareness of available sports, recreation, leadership, and youth development opportunities
- Build trusting relationships with youth, parents, schools, and community partners to encourage participation in positive youth activities
- Provide information and guidance to families regarding available sponsorships, financial assistance, and support services for youth participation
- Assist families in accessing available resources that reduce barriers to participation, including information about uniforms, equipment, transportation assistance, and other eligible program supports
- Promote existing youth recreation and extracurricular opportunities, including:
- Youth sports, art, and recreation programs
- Junior High and High School athletics
- Community extracurricular activities
- Youth development organizations
- Develop and implement outreach strategies that increase participation among underserved and at-risk youth
- Create promotional materials and distribute program information through schools, community partners, neighborhood events, and social media
- Establish and maintain relationships with school-based police officers and counselors, youth organizations, and community agencies to promote available opportunities
- Serve as the primary outreach contact with local youth-serving organizations to expand awareness of programs and resources
- Identify opportunities to promote youth leadership initiatives and positive youth development programs within the community
- Develop and maintain an annual outreach and promotion calendar
- Represent the organization at community outreach events, including:
- Back-to-School Nights
- Health Fairs
- School Open Houses
- Community resource fairs
- Neighborhood outreach events
- Conduct presentations and informational sessions for youth, families, schools, and community organizations
- Maintain records of outreach activities, referrals, and community engagement efforts
- Track participation trends and prepare reports demonstrating outreach outcomes
- Collect feedback from youth, families, and community partners to improve outreach strategies
- Assist with program evaluation by documenting community needs and identifying gaps in services
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide support to the Program Coordinator and Lead staff within the Community Initiatives Department with case management duties
- Represent CSET at community meetings, including but not limited to other CalVIP-related committees
- Participate in community service projects for the purpose of engaging families, including but not limited to Make a Difference Day and other service-learning projects
- Create monthly informational reports for the Department Director
- Compile and maintain program tracking and reports, which demonstrate outcomes of the CalVIP program
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively convey how CalVIP services are provided by CSET
- Knowledge of youth and family support service needs in the community
- Skill in short-range organizational planning
- Ability to report on milestones effectively and present recommendations as needed
- Communicate effectively in written and oral form
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for outreach events and community engagement activities
- Ability to travel throughout the community to conduct outreach and attend events
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
EXPERIENCE
- Experience working with at-risk youth and underserved families
- Experience tracking program data, preparing outcome reports, or documenting service delivery
- Experience with community engagement, outreach campaigns, or recreation programs
- Experience planning or supporting community events, workshops, or informational sessions
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
California Driver's License and proof of auto insurance required.
WORK CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

COMPENSATION
Pay Range: $21.36 – $22.11 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. This position is classified as Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with California and federal law.
