Position Summary
CBH is seeking an experienced Sr. Software Engineer with deep healthcare technology expertise to lead the design, development, integration, modernization, and support of enterprise healthcare applications and integration platforms.
This role combines hands-on technical leadership with team leadership responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in healthcare EDI integrations, SQL Server development, Azure API technologies, and modern Python/Django-based application development.
The individual will help guide technical direction, mentor development staff, coordinate operational support activities, and partner closely with business stakeholders, vendors, and IT leadership to deliver scalable and reliable healthcare technology solutions.
This position will play a key role in supporting modernization initiatives, operational stability, interoperability, automation, and enterprise application integration efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Lead the design, development, enhancement, and support of enterprise healthcare applications and integration solutions
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to developers and technical staff
Assist in establishing development standards, coding practices, SDLC processes, and technical governance
Review technical designs, code quality, and solution architecture
Support operational issue resolution and provide guidance during production incidents
Coordinate development priorities and technical assignments across the team
Application Development & Integration
Develop and support healthcare EDI/X12 transaction processing including:
Develop and optimize SQL Server databases, stored procedures, ETL processes, views, and reporting solutions
Design and develop RESTful APIs leveraging Azure API Management and Azure cloud technologies
Build and support Python/Django-based web applications and backend services
Support interoperability and healthcare data exchange initiatives involving APIs, EDI, and operational systems
Troubleshoot and resolve complex application, integration, and data issues
Support automation and modernization initiatives across the IT organization
Collaboration & Operations
Partner with Business Analysts, PMO teams, operational stakeholders, and vendors to gather requirements and deliver technical solutions
Participate in architecture discussions, operational planning, and project delivery activities
Support change management, deployment planning, testing coordination, and release activities
Ensure solutions align with security, compliance, and healthcare regulatory requirements including HIPAA
Document technical architecture, workflows, APIs, support procedures, and operational processes
Participate in on-call support and operational escalation activities as needed
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
8+ years of software development experience
5+ years of healthcare IT experience
Prior experience leading or mentoring technical teams
Strong experience with healthcare EDI/X12 transaction processing and integration workflows
Strong SQL Server and T-SQL development experience
Experience with Azure API Management and Azure integration technologies
Strong experience with Python and Django frameworks
Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
Strong understanding of SDLC, application architecture, and operational support processes
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within Managed Care, Medicaid, Behavioral Health, Claims, Eligibility, or Population Health environments
Experience with HL7/FHIR interoperability standards
Experience with Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Service Bus, or Data Factory
Experience with DevOps pipelines and CI/CD automation
Experience with cloud modernization initiatives
Experience with Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies
Prior leadership experience within healthcare application teams
