Responsibilities

The role involves managing large-scale genome sequencing initiatives for species conservation and de-extinction. Key duties include optimizing sequencing data flow, performing library preparation on the ONT platform, and utilizing robotic automation for NGS workflows.

Requirements

Candidates need a BA/BS in bioengineering, molecular biology, genetics, or a related field with at least one year of hands-on research experience. Proficiency in UHMW gDNA isolation and the Oxford Nanopore Technology platform is preferred.

Full job description

Colossal is seeking a Research Associate who will take on large-scale genome sequencing initiatives for species conservation and de-extinction in a core lab. They will expand on tools and methodologies to optimize sequencing data flow while maintaining and enhancing workflows to track samples from submission to data delivery.

This position is based on-site in Dallas, TX. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a thorough and detailed electronic lab notebook
  • Library preparation and sequencing - ONT platform
  • UHMW gDNA extraction and preparation for optical genome mapping - Bionano
  • Perform structure and copy number variant analyses
  • Utilize and adapt robotic automation for NGS workflows (Firefly Plus)
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory space

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Capable of working in a fast-paced, high volume sequencing core on parallel projects, while maintaining accuracy and timely data transfer
  • Self-motivated, flexible, proactive, works well under pressure and deadlines, detail-oriented
  • Enthusiastic to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities
  • Creative problem-solver who can perform technical trouble-shooting 
  • Communicates clearly and proactively to ensure data delivery to stakeholders

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with UHMW gDNA isolation and optical genome mapping (Bionano)
  • Comfortable with working in a core lab and communicating with stakeholders. 
  • Experience in library preparation and sequencing using the Oxford Nanopore Technology platform

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS with 1+ years of hands-on research in bioengineering, molecular biology, genetics or related fields, such as computational biology
