The After School Lead assists in developing and implementing instructional programs, tutoring, and recreational activities for students. They are responsible for monitoring daily operations, ensuring student safety, and coordinating with staff and families.
Candidates must have a high school diploma and three to six months of experience working with children of varying needs. Preferred qualifications include school-based experience and knowledge of safety procedures and behavior management techniques.

Responsible to: After School Coordinator
Under general direction of the Afterschool Coordinator (Site Coordinator) and with guidance by designated school site management/ and or certificated staff, the After School Lead will assist with the development and implementation of after school and other student learning activities and experiences, including organizing, and conducting classes, tutoring, program activities and events. Lead Program Assistants will monitor daily operations for all after school instructional programs and activities.

Lead and assist in planning (prep time) & implementation of the daily After School Program under the direction of the After School Coordinator
Qualifications
Education
An earned high school diploma.
Experience
At least three to six months of experience working with children of varying ages, needs, abilities, and backgrounds. School-based experience preferred.
Environment
This position will include indoor and outdoor work (classrooms, offices, cafeteria, eating area, common area, auditorium, playground(s), restroom(s), stairs if applicable, roof(s) and parking lot(s)) and/or shop environments including confined spaces with the following possible exposures: dust; wind; sun; insects; chemicals including hazardous chemicals, solvents and oil; fumes from chemicals and odors; grease; bloodborne pathogens and biohazardous waste; variances in temperature; variances in weather conditions (snow, rain, sleet, etc.); electrically and mechanically operated equipment with moving parts; noise which can range from quiet to loud; playground projectiles such as baseballs, footballs, basketballs, etc.; intervening physically to stop conflicts between angry or emotionally upset students; and, dealing with students, parents, employees and the general public who may exhibit unpredictable or anti-social behavior.

The institute began with an early childhood program based at California State University, Northridge. The success of the early childhood program, coupled with the needs of the community and sound research, prompted a group of parents and Cal State Northridge faculty to develop a charter elementary school in 2001 and a charter middle school in 2003. The two schools were merged into kindergarten through 8th grade in 2010 and named the CHIME Institute’s Schwarzenegger Community School. Inclusive education at CHIME Institute means that children who reflect the demographics of the surrounding region—including children who develop typically, children with special needs and children who are gifted—learn side by side. CHIME’s model allows for the individual needs of each child to be addressed in a manner that enhances each child’s strengths while also addressing learning needs. In addition, CHIME serves as a model for educators through its partnership with Cal State Northridge’s Michael D. Eisner College of Education and the Los Angeles Unified School District. It facilitates research opportunities and regularly hosts visitors from surrounding districts and as far away as Japan and the United Kingdom who are interested in replicating CHIME’s successes, in their own schools and communities.
