Responsibilities

Operate CNC routers and machining centers to produce high-quality custom retail fixtures from wood and laminated panels. Responsibilities include setting up tooling, running programmed jobs, performing quality inspections, and managing shift handoffs.

Requirements

Requires prior experience with CNC routers and the ability to read blueprints and CAD output. Candidates must possess strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work independently on a 2nd shift schedule.

Full job description

Description

We design and build custom retail store fixtures for leading brands—project-based work that requires precision, craftsmanship, and dependable production at every stage. We are looking for a 2nd Shift CNC/Machining Operator to produce high-quality parts from wood, MDF, plywood, and laminated panels using CNC routers and machining centers.

You will review work orders, cut lists, drawings, and handoff notes from 1st shift; set up tooling and materials; run programmed jobs; and inspect completed parts for accuracy and quality. You will also monitor machine performance, troubleshoot routine issues, maintain production records, and clearly communicate machine and job status to the next shift.

This role is ideal for someone who combines CNC experience with strong mechanical aptitude and independent judgment. Because 2nd shift operates with a smaller support crew and less direct supervision, we need a reliable, safety-focused operator who can keep work moving, recognize when adjustments are needed, and take pride in producing parts accurately and efficiently.

  • Review 1st-shift handoff notes, scheduling boards, work orders, cut lists, and part drawings/CAD files to determine machining priorities for the shift
  • Load and secure panels/parts onto the CNC table using vacuum hold-down, pods, clamps, or fixtures
  • Select, load, and verify correct tooling (drill bits, router bits, saw blades) in the tool changer
  • Load or select the correct CNC program/nesting file; verify offsets, zero points, and tool paths before running unattended or semi-attended cycles
  • Run machine cycles with minimal supervision, monitoring for tool wear, material shifting, or program errors and stopping the machine when needed
  • Perform first-article inspection and in-process quality checks using calipers, squares, or gauges
  • Adjust feed rates, spindle speeds, or tool offsets to correct chipping, burning, or tear-out
  • Unload finished parts, inspect for defects, and stage for downstream processes (edge banding, assembly, sanding)
  • Perform basic program edits (offsets, tool numbers) independently; document and escalate complex programming issues rather than waiting for day-shift engineering support
  • Change and calibrate router bits and drills; perform routine maintenance (vacuum system checks, lubrication, dust collection) with limited maintenance staff on-site
  • Troubleshoot minor mechanical or program issues independently; know when to safely shut down and flag an issue rather than continue running
  • Maintain accurate production, scrap, and downtime records for the shift
  • Complete a clear end-of-shift handoff (machine status, in-progress jobs, material shortages, quality issues) for 1st shift
  • Follow lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and safety procedures during setup, tooling changes, or clearing jams — especially important with reduced staffing on-site
  • Keep work area and machine clean and free of debris/dust buildup; secure the work area at end of shift

Pay Range

$22.00- $28.00 per hour + $2 shift premium + profit sharing

The actual base salary offered will vary based on factors such as relevant skills, prior experience, education, the base salary of internal peers, and demonstrated performance. In addition to your base salary, you will be eligible for our comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:

Benefits:

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Basic life insurance, voluntary life insurance (employee, spouse, and children), short-term and long-term disability insurance, critical care, and accident insurance
  • Nice Healthcare: An integrated primary care clinic that provides healthcare services from home, office, or a location convenient to you for a nominal co-pay. Over 550 medications are available at no cost through Nice.
  • Company-paid basic life insurance (up to $25,000) and short-term disability insurance
  • Generous company contribution to Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Profit-sharing program
  • Paid time off (PTO) and holidays
  • Tuition reimbursement program

Chandler is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Prior experience operating a CNC router or machining center (Biesse, SCM, Homag, Thermwood, Multicam, etc.) preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints, cut lists, and basic CAD/CAM output
  • Basic computer literacy; comfort navigating machine control software/HMI
  • Understanding of tooling selection (bit types, RPM/feed rate relationships) a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and precision measurement skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot independently with minimal on-site support
  • Self-motivated and reliable with reduced direct supervision typical of 2nd shift
  • Willingness and availability to work a consistent 2nd shift schedule, including occasional overtime

Physical Requirements

  • Standing: Ability to stand for extended periods (up to full 8–10 hour shift)
  • Lifting/Carrying: Regularly lift and carry panels/parts weighing 25–50 lbs.; team-lift or lift-assist for larger sheets (up to 100+ lbs.)
  • Pushing/Pulling: Push/pull material carts and slide panels onto/off the CNC table
  • Repetitive Motion: Frequent hand and arm movement for loading/unloading parts, clamping fixtures, and tool changes
  • Bending/Reaching: Regular bending and reaching to load panels, install fixtures/pods, and retrieve finished parts
  • Manual Dexterity: Fine motor skills for tool changes, fixture setup, and precise alignment of parts
  • Hearing/Vision: Ability to detect abnormal spindle/machine sounds and visually inspect cut quality, tool wear, and program accuracy
  • Independent Judgment: Ability to safely assess and respond to machine issues, alarms, or quality problems without immediate supervisor availability
