Description

CATS Academy Boston is seeking a dedicated and experienced Physician Assistant (PA) to lead the clinical operations of the school's on-campus health center. This is a full-time, 12-month position employed directly by CATS Academy Boston, with access to the full CATS employee benefits package.

The PA will serve as the primary clinical provider on campus, working under the supervision of the contracted Medical Director and in close collaboration with the Medical Assistant and Medical Secretary/Administrative Coordinator. As CATS is a residential school, this role requires a flexible, service-oriented mindset and the ability to respond to the dynamic needs of a student community 

that lives on campus. Specific scheduling and on-call arrangements will be established in coordination with the Medical Director and school administration.

This position reports to the Medical Director for clinical supervision; CATS Academy Boston administration for operational and employment matters.  The PA also works closely with: Medical Assistant, Medical Secretary/Administrative Coordinator, school 

administration, residential life staff, and faculty.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive primary care services to students, including evaluation, diagnosis, 

and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries

  • Conduct intake assessments, physical examinations, and follow-up care
  • Administer and oversee medication administration and monitoring for students with standing 

orders and daily medications

  • Manage and triage student health concerns, including mental health presentations, in 

coordination with school counseling staff

  • Provide urgent and emergent care as the first clinical responder on campus; coordinate 

emergency transport and hospital handoffs as needed

  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests; coordinate referrals to off-campus specialists
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the health center in a manner consistent with a 

professional medical office environment

  • Maintain accurate and complete electronic medical records (EMR) for all students in 

accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, and Massachusetts privacy regulations

  • Develop and implement health center policies, protocols, and standing orders in 

collaboration with the Medical Director

  • Ensure medication storage, handling, and documentation comply with all applicable state 

and federal regulations

  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment; coordinate procurement and 

maintenance

  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student health matters, within 

appropriate consent and privacy frameworks

  • Coordinate with the Medical Secretary/Administrative Coordinator to manage student health 

records, consent forms, and immunization documentation

  • Ensure compliance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations applicable 

to school health services

 • Collaborating with residential life staff to develop and maintain protocols for common student 

health concerns, including communicable illness, injury, and mental health

  • Serving as a trusted health resource for students navigating the U.S. healthcare system, 

many of whom are international

  • Advising school administration on health trends, infectious disease concerns, and public 

health matters affecting the campus

  • Supporting the continuity of care for students across the full academic year and summer 

programming

 • Provide health and wellness training to CATS faculty and staff, including first aid, CPR/AED, 

and emergency response procedures

  • Train residential and support staff on recognizing and responding to common student health 

concerns, including mental health warning signs

  • Educate students on health topics relevant to adolescent well-being as appropriate
  • Support onboarding of new health center staff and contribute to their ongoing development
  • Participate in school-wide emergency preparedness planning and drills
  • Work closely with the Medical Director on quality assurance, clinical protocols, and complex 

case management

  • Communicate proactively with school administration regarding student health matters that 

may affect academics, residential life, or campus safety

  • Participate in policy development, compliance review, and health-related committees as 

requested

  • Maintain collaborative relationships with external healthcare providers, specialists, and 

community resources

Requirements

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current NCCPA certification (PA-C)
  • Active, unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (or 

eligibility to obtain prior to start date)

  • Current CPR/BLS certification; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in primary care, pediatrics, adolescent 

medicine, or urgent care

  • Strong working knowledge of EMR systems and clinical documentation best practices
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, FERPA, and Massachusetts health privacy regulations
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule in support of a residential school community, including 

participation in an on-call rotation as determined by the coverage schedule

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a school health, camp, or residential setting
  • Experience with adolescent populations (ages 13–18)
  • Spanish or other language proficiency, given the school's international student body
  • Training or experience in mental health first aid or adolescent behavioral health
  • Experience providing staff training or health education
