The role focuses on helping children and families understand illness and hospitalization while decreasing stress and anxiety related to medical procedures. Responsibilities include developing individualized plans of care, providing age-appropriate education, and collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Child Development or a related field with specific required coursework and have completed a 600-hour internship. Certification as a Child Life Specialist (CCLS) is required within one year, and BLS certification is required within 30 days.
To help children and their families better understand the illness, hospitalization and outpatient procedures. Decreasing stress and anxiety related to procedures, separation from home and family and changes in routine are the key focus areas.
License/Certifications:Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) within 1 year - Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) AND
Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA) Education:Bachelor's Degree: Child Development including the 10 required courses as outlined by Association of Child Life Professionals OR
