Responsibilities

Provide confidential sign language interpreting services between ASL and English users. Services are delivered in-person or via video across community, medical, mental health, and emergency settings.

Requirements

Must be a CASLI member with a 3-4 year post-secondary diploma or degree and at least one year of interpreting experience. Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada and possess strong fluency in both ASL and English.

Full job description

Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) Interpreting and Translation Services is expanding its team of freelance sign language interpreters. The Freelance Interpreter will provide confidential interpreting services between American Sign Language (ASL) and English language users in-person and/or via video in a variety of settings, which include community, medical, mental health, and emergency events.

 

This posting is for an existing vacancy.

As an active member of Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI) you hold a 3–4-year post-secondary diploma/degree from an accredited program. You have a minimum of 1-year of interpreting experience combined with excellent language fluency in both ASL and ENG, with the ability to match diverse language use of consumers.  You also take pride in providing exceptional quality service while always maintaining strict confidentiality and following best practices and protocols.

If you are self-motivated, possess strong interpersonal skills, and have extensive understanding of Deaf culture, this may just be the team for you.
