Full job description

About Cambrian

Cambrian designs, builds, owns, and operates on-site water and wastewater treatment and reuse systems for industrial manufacturers with no capital investment required: our clients pay only per gallon treated. As industrial water scarcity and usage moves to the front of the global conversation, Cambrian is building the infrastructure that solves for it, and the market recognition to match.

Position Overview

Cambrian is hiring a PR & Communications Intern to help grow the company's presence in industry and business press. You will work directly with the Director of Marketing on media outreach, press releases, thought leadership, and event strategy, gaining real experience in how a growing industrial technology company builds its public profile. This is a hands-on role: your pitches will go to real journalists, your drafts will move through a real review process, and your research will shape where Cambrian shows up next.

Compensation & Logistics

Location: NYC Office
Term: 16 weeks

Qualifications

•     Currently enrolled as a student, or a recent graduate.
•     Major in public relations, communications, marketing, media studies, journalism.

Key Responsibilities

Earned Media
•     Pitch story angles to journalists and outlets on a routine basis.
•     Track pitch status, follow-ups, and outreach activity by outlet.
•     Monitor press and reporter opportunities for angles worth pitching.
Outcome: Direct experience writing and pitching to journalists and publications.

Press Releases
•     Draft and format release copy for milestone announcements.
•     Route drafts to a marketing lead for review before distribution.
•     Maintain a running calendar of company milestones for reference.
Outcome: Hands on writing experience within a real review process.

Thought Leadership
•     Research industry events and publications where thought leadership content applies.
•     Build and maintain a content and speaking calendar.
•     Draft applications for submission.
Outcome: Build research and application-pitching skills tied to speaking public opportunities and publishing thought leadership.

Events & Tradeshows
•     Research upcoming industry events and conferences relevant to the company.
•     Build and maintain an events calendar with submission windows and deadlines.
Outcome: Experience in event research and planning.

Reporting & Approvals

The intern reports directly to the Director of Marketing, with a standing weekly one-on-one to review open tasks and assignments. Any external material carrying a quote, company claim, speaker proposal, press release, or pitch goes to the Director of Marketing for review before it moves.

Experience Gained

Essential skills are taught directly, through the weekly one-on-one and day-to-day role responsibilities. By the end of the internship, the intern will have experience in:
  • Media outreach and journalist relationship-building
  • Press release drafting and the review process behind a real announcement
  • Thought leadership research, from speaking opportunities to publication pitches
  • Event and conference calendar management
  • Use of AI tools inside a real marketing workflow
  • Building and maintaining content calendars
  • Project management software
  • Managing time against multiple deadlines

This experience converts into:
  • A resume line describing measurable work
  • A portfolio of work examples
  • A reference from the Director of Marketing
