Responsibilities

The operator is responsible for monitoring, adjusting, and maintaining wastewater treatment plant equipment to ensure effluent meets quality standards. This includes performing laboratory testing, routine maintenance, and responding to operational emergencies.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and a valid TCEQ Class D water or wastewater license. A valid Texas driver's license and the ability to pass background and physical exams are also required.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Join our dynamic team as a Water/Wastewater Treatment Operator, where you'll play a vital role in maintaining the water treatment facilities. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor, you'll perform essential technical and mechanical tasks to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of treatment and conveyance facilities. Your responsibilities will extend to daily operations, training initiatives, and maintaining a strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance. Salary will depend on experience and licensing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitor and maintain wastewater treatment plant to ensure proper treatment of effluent waters
  • Monitor plant processes through laboratory testing to ensure proper treatment.
  • Monitor effluent through laboratory testing to ensure effluent meets minimum quality standards required by the plant permit
  • Maintain cleanliness of wastewater treatment area and conduct routine maintenance and inspection of waste storage areas
  • Report any safety, environmental, or quality concerns and take necessary actions.
  • Operates wastewater treatment plants by monitoring, evaluating, adjusting and maintaining the equipment and systems used in these facilities
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by fostering open communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Adhere to industry safety standards, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Execute routine and emergency operational, maintenance, construction, and repair functions, prioritizing tasks in the field
  • Conduct daily inspections of wastewater treatment facilities, and related equipment
  • Respond to operational emergencies as required, potentially involving on-call and shift work
  • Assist customers with water-related concerns, ensuring quality, delivery, and addressing odors and vector control
  • Coordinate all work efforts within the framework of company safety policies and OSHA regulations
  • Maintains a variety of operational and maintenance logs, reports and other forms
  • Performs ground and building maintenance
  • Operate and maintain motor vehicle and lawn maintenance equipment
  • Offer guidance to peers and subordinates in routine day-to-day work activities
  • Performs other similar duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  Must hold a valid TCEQ Class “D” water or wastewater license. Candidates with out‑of‑state licenses must obtain the required Texas license within 90 days of hire. Applicants currently working toward certification will also be considered.
  • High school education or GED as a minimum
  • Valid driver’s license in the State of Texas
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must pass a physical exam
  • Resides within the area of employment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to safely operate various equipment
  • Ability to make equipment repairs
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE for chemical protection
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and established procedures for maintenance and testing

WORK HOURS

The work schedule is five days per week, 8 hours per day, minimum. Work hours are subject to change depending on operational conditions and needs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

Facilities are located in the Kyle/Buda area, and the applicant may also occasionally be required to work at our Castroville facility. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and may require confined space entry.
