Full job description

The Education & Training Supervisor / Paramedic is responsible for coordinating, delivering, and supporting education and training programs for EMS providers while serving as an active Paramedic within the organization's ambulance operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring new hires are successfully onboarded, current employees maintain clinical competency, and training activities support regulatory compliance, patient safety, and operational excellence.

The Education & Training Supervisor / Paramedic assists with new hire orientation, continuing education, remedial and refresher training, and nationally recognized programs such as CPR and NAEMT courses. Working collaboratively with Operations, Quality/Risk, Clinical Leadership, and Human Resources, this position serves as a field-based educator, mentor, and role model while maintaining regular ambulance shifts and providing patient care.

Role and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate and assist in delivering EMS new hire orientation programs to ensure consistent onboarding, cultural integration, and readiness for field deployment.
  1. Reinforce orientation standards and expectations related to professionalism, engagement, attendance, and policy compliance.
  1. Partner with Operations, Human Resources, and Clinical Leadership to support new hire training, field evaluations, and credentialing requirements.
  1. Serve as a Field Training Officer, mentor, or preceptor for new hires and employees requiring additional support.
  1. Identify training needs related to clinical performance, policy compliance, quality assurance findings, and operational trends.
  1. Develop and deliver remedial, refresher, and continuing education programs for EMS providers as assigned.
  1. Ensure retraining activities are objective, educational, supportive, and aligned with quality improvement initiatives.
  1. Assist with CPR, NAEMT, and other approved EMS education programs while maintaining instructor certifications and standards.
  1. Coordinate training schedules, classroom activities, skills sessions, and educational resources under the direction of department leadership.
  1. Maintain accurate training documentation, competency records, attendance records, and certification tracking.
  1. Collaborate with Quality/Risk and Clinical Leadership to support education initiatives related to QA trends, sentinel events, and system improvements.
  1. Ensure educational activities comply with state EMS regulations, national standards, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies.
  1. Monitor employee training completion and competency validation requirements.
  1. Serve as a clinical and educational resource for employees seeking guidance on protocols, patient care, and professional development.
  1. Participate in quality improvement activities, training committees, and program evaluations as assigned.
  1. Work assigned ambulance shifts as a licensed Paramedic and provide patient care in accordance with local, state, and national standards.
  1. Maintain field competency and operational readiness through regular participation in EMS operations.
  1. Support field observations and ride-along evaluations to assess employee performance and training effectiveness.
  1. Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, continuous learning, and clinical excellence throughout the organization.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  1. Minimum of one (1) year of EMS instructional, preceptor, Field Training Officer, supervisory, or leadership experience preferred.
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  1. Must be at least 19 years of age at the time of hire for insurance purposes.
  1. Successful completion of NREMT Paramedic certification.
  1. Current NREMT certification and state Paramedic license (or ability to obtain within 10 days of hire).
  1. Valid driver's license.
  1. Ability to operate company vehicles with an acceptable driving record.
  1. Successful completion of NAEMT EVOS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  1. Current AHA BLS and ACLS Instructor certification, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  1. Current NAEMT Instructor certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  1. Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality patient care within scope of practice.
  1. Working knowledge of state EMS protocols and standards of care.
  1. Availability for emergency recall during operational or organizational emergencies.
  1. Ability to pass a lift test of 150 to 200 pounds.
  1. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  1. Ability to pass a pre-employment background investigation.
  1. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  1. Experience assisting with EMS training programs, orientation programs, continuing education, or clinical mentoring preferred.
  1. Knowledge of adult learning principles and EMS educational best practices preferred.
  1. Demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace safety by identifying hazards, reporting risks, and supporting continuous safety improvements.
  1. Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements while actively promoting a safe work environment.
  1. Collaborate with team members to uphold safety standards and foster a culture of safety throughout all operations.

Working Conditions

  1. This position is a combination of field operations, classroom instruction, and administrative responsibilities.
  1. Regularly worksscheduled ambulance shifts providing patient care and emergency medical services.
  1. Frequently performs instruction in classroom, simulation, and skills-lab environments.
  1. Participates in field-based training, ride-alongs, clinical evaluations, and competency assessments.
  1. Regularly enters and exits ambulances and operates around emergency vehicles and equipment.
  1. Works in ambulance bays, stations, training facilities, healthcare environments, and outdoor operational settings.
  1. Frequently exposed to weather conditions, vehicle noise, exhaust fumes, and emergency response environments.
  1. Must be able to climb stairs and demonstrate patient movement equipment, including stair chairs, cots, and lifting devices.
  1. Requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, kneeling, and reaching during patient care and training activities.
  1. Must maintain the physical ability to perform all essential Paramedic job functions.
  1. Work schedules may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional schedule adjustments to accommodate training and operational needs.
