Position Description

Job Title: Hispanic Youth Specialist
Department: Operations
Reports To: Director of Hispanic Outreach
Status: Part-Time Non-exempt hourly (20+ hours per week; less than 25)

The typical/regular schedule for this position consists of 4.5-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., during the school year.

Job Summary

The Hispanic Outreach Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality youth development programming while supporting the organization's Hispanic Outreach initiatives through bilingual communication, family engagement, community outreach, and culturally responsive programming.

Working under the direction of the Director of Hispanic Outreach and in partnership with the assigned Unit Director, this position combines direct supervision of youth with outreach responsibilities aimed at strengthening relationships with Hispanic and Latino families, increasing participation in BGCSENC programs, and building lasting community partnerships.

The successful candidate serves as both a Youth Development Professional and a community ambassador, helping ensure that every family feels welcome, informed, and connected to Club services.

Major Responsibilities

1. Youth Development & Program Delivery

• Plan, organize, facilitate, and supervise engaging programs and activities that support BGCSENC's priority outcomes of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Leadership.
• Create a safe, positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment for all members.
• Build positive, supportive relationships with youth while serving as a professional role model.
• Utilize trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches to promote positive behavior and youth development.
• Maintain appropriate supervision of members during all activities, transitions, field trips, and special events.
• Accurately record attendance, behavior documentation, incident reports, and program participation.
• Assist with daily setup, organization, inventory, and cleanliness of program spaces.
• Follow all BGCSENC, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), licensing, and safety policies and procedures.

2. Family Engagement

• Welcome members and their families each day, creating a positive first impression of the Club.
• Build trusting relationships with Hispanic and Latino families through consistent communication and engagement.
• Assist families with membership registration, scholarship opportunities, program information, and available community resources.
• Communicate important Club information in both English and Spanish.
• Encourage family participation in Club activities, events, workshops, and volunteer opportunities.
• Support family retention through ongoing communication and exceptional customer service.

3. Community Engagement

• Working under the direction of the Director of Hispanic Outreach, assist with planning, coordinating, and participating in community engagement efforts including:
  • School outreach activities
  • Membership recruitment events
  • Community resource fairs
  • Family engagement nights
  • Cultural celebrations
  • Community presentations
  • Distribution of outreach materials
  • Partnership development with community organizations
  • Recruitment initiatives that increase Hispanic and Latino family participation
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for BGCSENC by promoting the organization's mission, programs, and services throughout the community.

4. Bilingual Communication

• Provide interpretation between staff and Spanish-speaking families as needed.
• Translate written and verbal communications to ensure accurate information is shared.
• Assist staff in communicating effectively with Spanish-speaking members and families.
• Help eliminate language barriers that may prevent families from accessing Club programs and services.
• Ensure all families receive timely, accurate, and culturally appropriate communication.

5. Cultural Engagement

• Foster an environment where every child and family feels welcomed, respected, and included.
• Incorporate multicultural activities and perspectives into Club programming.
• Assist with planning and implementation of Hispanic Heritage Month and other multicultural celebrations.
• Encourage bilingual learning opportunities among members.
• Promote cultural awareness and appreciation throughout Club operations.

6. Event Support

• Assist with the planning, coordination, and implementation of:
  • Family Engagement Nights
  • Community Resource Fairs
  • School Open Houses
  • Membership Recruitment Events
  • Parent Workshops
  • Community Celebrations
  • Special Outreach Initiatives
  • Cultural Events
• Occasional evening and weekend participation is required.

7. Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate attendance records, program documentation, and outreach data.
• Assist with tracking family engagement, outreach participation, and membership recruitment efforts.
• Communicate successes, concerns, and opportunities to the Director of Hispanic Outreach.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
• Complete required reports and documentation accurately and on time.
• Maintain confidentiality of members, family, and organizational information.

Additional Responsibilities

• Attend required staff meetings and professional development training.
• Complete all required BGCA and BGCSENC safety training.
• Assist with transportation by serving as a bus monitor or driver if qualified.
• Support organizational events, fundraising activities, and community outreach initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Relationships

Internal: Maintains close working relationships with the Director of Hispanic Outreach, Unit Directors, Regional Directors, Youth Development Professionals, Operations staff, and other BGCSENC employees to ensure effective program delivery and family engagement.

External: Develops positive relationships with members, parents, guardians, volunteers, school personnel, community organizations, partner agencies, and the general public.

Skills/Knowledge Required

Required Qualifications

• Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal).
• Minimum age of 21 years.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience working with children or adolescents.
• Ability to supervise youth in an active environment.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work afternoon, evening, and occasional weekend hours.
• Ability to successfully complete required criminal background screening and child safety requirements.
• Reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with Hispanic and Latino families.
• Experience in youth development, education, recreation, community outreach, or nonprofit programming.
• Associate's degree or coursework in Education, Human Services, Recreation, Social Work, or a related field.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or willingness to obtain).

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly stands, walks, bends, reaches, lifts, carries, and actively participates in recreational and educational activities with youth. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and supervise children in both indoor and outdoor environments.

This position may require evening and weekend hours to support community outreach events, family engagement activities, and special programs.
