In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
Federal Work Study student may apply.
In good disciplinary standing.
Must be located in the U.S.

Graduate Assistants/Assistant Musical Directors, alongside supervising Musical Theatre faculty, deliver rigorous and inclusive early-level musical theatre training in dance, singing, song interpretation, and ensemble work to 12–14 year old collaborators working toward a culminating public share.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of supervising Musical Theatre faculty, Graduate Assistants will:
coach small groups in dance, choral, and ensemble work
serve as active musical and movement role models in rehearsal
provide individualized vocal and stylistic feedback; and contribute to the musical preparation of repertoire for daily and final shares
prepare and manage classroom and rehearsal materials
take attendance
support daily program operations
organize and facilitate Brown Bag Conversations — guided discussions of contemporary industry issues pitched for a teen audience
Students in this position must be currently enrolled in one of the Conservatory's Graduate Vocal Pedagogy degree programs: the MFA in Musical Theater Vocal Pedagogy or the MM in Vocal Pedagogy.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
Comfort with musical theatre dance styles, particularly jazz, and working command of musical theatre song styles across the canon in performance.
Sight reading, beginning music theory competency, and basic piano sufficient for vocal practice.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a wide range of skill levels and learner temperaments in a pre-teen/teen population.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
Prior experience teaching pre-teens and teens, or a clearly articulated interest in working with this population.
Capacity to play a musical instrument — any — well enough to accompany performance. Songwriting and arranging skills, and coursework or experience in teaching pedagogy.
Skills To Be Gained:
Through this work, Graduate Assistants gain the skills required to:
teach in partnership with a supervising faculty member and to respond to the needs of individual students and the group as a whole
learn strategies for working across the range of learning styles and engagement levels typical of a pre-teen / teen ensemble
learn to structure class and rehearsal meetings, sequence content over the arc of a program, and sustain the pedagogical and organizational culture of an early-training musical theatre program.
