The Job: Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Liaison (6 Month Contract)

The starting salary range falls within the minimum to mid-point of the salary range.

Starting Salary Range: $80,066 - $100,083

Reporting to the EDI Manager, the EDI Liaison provides strategic support and implementation leadership to advance equity initiatives for Doctors of BC’s physician members. This role requires thought leadership in equity, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring best practices are advanced across Doctors of BC and the broader health system. The Liaison will champion innovative approaches and foster sustainable health systems change in EDI.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
  • The EDI Liaison supports the physician-led IDEA Committee, which provides advice to the Board and the Association on equity, diversity, and inclusion-related issues pertaining to Doctors of BC governance bodies, members, and the profession at large. Acts as the primary staff contact for the IDEA Committee and chair, providing guidance informed by EDI best practices and resources.
  • Develops, implements, and tracks initiatives from the IDEA Committee, ensuring that project milestones are met on time. Lead accountability for the execution of the 2025-2026 Doctors of BC’s EDI Physician Engagement Plan.
  • Attends IDEA Committee meetings both virtual and in-person, supporting these meetings by jointly planning the agenda with the IDEA chair, conducting research, writing summaries, preparing presentations, organizing meeting packages, and communicating with IDEA members.
  • Building strong relationships across the health system and with equity-deserving communities is essential for success. The Liaison actively engages physicians and health system partners to strengthen partnerships, enhance trust, and ensure the voices of equity-deserving groups are included in decision-making.
  • Prepares presentations for senior leaders and committee members, and communications for management and executive use.
  • Stays current with emerging and ongoing EDI issues, themes, resources, and legislation or regulatory changes, with particular attention to physician workforce equity, health systems reform, and culturally safe care.
  • Collaborates with the ISAR & EDI team on EDI training, consultations, and communications among Doctors of BC team members, with emphasis on internal coordination and support.

  • Ability to set objectives necessary for obtaining feedback and assistance.
  • Working with different cultural groups from a place of learning, understanding and humility.
  • Identifies and builds trusting relationships with physician leaders at local and regional levels, both virtually and in-person.
  • Seeks referrals from others with relevant expertise and influence.
  • Attends and maintains relationships with relevant formal and informal professional groups and external organizations.
  • Creates and maintains effective and positive relationships within Doctors of BC and its programs.

Change Advocate (A):

  • Fosters collaboration and coordination to reduce duplication of effort and identify opportunities for physicians to become local champions on topics of cultural safety, anti-racism, diversity and inclusion.
  • Connects and networks on local initiatives with the long term goal of coordination and potentially expand and establish activities to regional and provincial levels.
  • Assists and encourages physician champions in their efforts to connect with local communities and cultural groups.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date knowledge on initiatives and developments in this subject area.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge on best practices and education regarding diversity, inclusion, cultural safety, and anti-racism; and recommends changes that impact strategic directions.
  • Evaluates progress and sets expectations for monitoring, feedback systems and review of performance trends.

  • Applies prior knowledge, models, tools, and techniques to analyze and deeply understand issues and recognize connections, patterns, and trends. 
  • Determines the direction and develops short-term strategies for programs that are consistent with key organizational priorities and values. 
  • Clearly articulates and promotes the significance and impact of employee contributions to promoting and achieving organizational goals, ensuring team objectives are consistent with strategic plan.
  • Understands the position of Doctors of BC in the larger world context, conveying a thorough understanding of the organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

  • Adapts approach without feeling own agenda or outcomes have been compromised. 
  • Challenges inefficient/ ineffective work processes and offers constructive alternatives. 
  • Analyzes work errors, successes and failures and sets learning strategies to rectify and increase knowledge. 
  • Ability to adapt to changing workload priorities, effectively reprioritizing or deferring tasks in line with operational and strategic goals.

Executive Presence (A):

  • Demonstrates responsiveness and respectfulness while partnering with key stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to appreciate grassroots change and help elevate sensitive topics in politicized environments.
  • Responds constructively in high pressure situations and acts confidently to captivate the attention, interest and respect of others.
  • Understands diverse internal and external interest groups and power bases within the working environment to lead and negotiate most effectively.
  • Thinks before speaking, has the ability to showcase active listening skills and states own perspective confidently but diplomatically despite potential challenge from influential third parties.
What You Bring
  • A graduate university degree and/or a recognized professional designation in a specialized field, and up to six years of progressive experience; or having an equivalent level of related work experience in lieu of post-secondary education.
  • Previous experience leading and facilitating equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives in a complex organization.
  • Familiarity with project management approaches, tools, and phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Board governance training, project management, and change management training and experience are assets.
  • Demonstrated experience bringing influence and strategic direction to senior leaders, committees, and key parties.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and critically appraise research and data.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, track and meet deadlines, and collaborate in a virtual team environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills.
  • An up-to-date skill set on applicable software applications.
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally as required and work outside regular business hours on occasion.
