The Certified Surgical First Assist provides direct support to surgeons during procedures by positioning patients, manipulating tissue, and maintaining visualization of the operative site. They also assist with wound closure, dressing application, and the preparation of surgical suites with necessary instruments and supplies.
Candidates must hold a BLS certification and a surgical assistant credential from the NBSTSA, NCCSA, or ABSA. Educational requirements include either a high school diploma with two years of experience, an associate or technical degree, or four years of relevant cumulative experience.
