Full job description
Imagine working at the forefront of innovation in fluid-flow technology, with over 1,400 colleagues across the globe, and contributing to a legacy of excellence that spans eight manufacturing facilities on four continents. Armstrong Fluid Technology is more than just a leader in our industry; we are a community of the brightest and most creative minds, driven by a shared mission to engineer the future and safeguard our planet.
As part of our team, you'll be immersed in an environment that fosters growth, creativity, and collaboration. Here, you'll have the opportunity to push boundaries, tackle exciting challenges, and develop cutting-edge solutions that promote energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Every day offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution to a more sustainable future, driving innovations that help lower global carbon footprints. Together, we’re creating a legacy that goes beyond business—one that’s changing the world for the better.
In this role, Design Engineer is responsible for the engineering design & execution of offsite built Modular Performance Systems, including integrated pump packages & plant rooms for HVAC and Fire Pump applications, as part of a multidisciplinary project team. The role involves developing detailed engineering designs, manufacturing documentation, and technical solutions while ensuring compliance with customer specifications, project schedules, company standards, and quality requirements.
Key Accountabilities
Engineering Design & Project Execution
Perform engineering design & development activities for offsite-built Modular Performance Systems, including integrated pump packages & plant rooms for HVAC & Fire Pump applications across diverse market segments such as commercial buildings, industrial facilities, data centres, healthcare, hospitality, and infrastructure projects.
Develop 3D models, 2D drawings, assemblies, sub-assemblies, fabrication drawings, and manufacturing documentation using CAD tools.
Provide detailed engineering support including bills of materials (BOM), calculations, purchase specifications.
Carry out concept-to-delivery engineering activities based on customer specifications and project requirements. Ensure engineering deliverables are completed within project schedules, budget, quality standards, and approved procedures.
Cross Functional Coordination & Technical Support
Work with Project Managers, clients, manufacturing teams, and suppliers to create and monitor project engineering plans and deliverables.
Coordinate engineering changes, technical clarifications, and design updates throughout project execution. Participate in design review meetings, planning discussions, and customer coordination meetings when required.
Support site surveys, installation verification, and commissioning-related engineering activities. Provide technical assistance to manufacturing, fabrication, procurement, and site execution teams.
Willingness to undertake national travel and infrequent international travel (approximately 10–25%).
Design Standards, Documentation & Compliance
Support adherence to project document control procedures, engineering standards, and filing systems.
Work with engineering teams to create and maintain standard templates, parts libraries, and drafting standards.
Participate in quality reviews and ensure compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and customer specifications.
Support implementation of design-for-manufacture and buildability principles in all engineering activities.
Work with engineering and operational teams to improve design efficiency, standardization, and project execution processes - engineering tools, workflows, and technical standards.
Coordinate lessons learned and best-practice sharing across engineering projects.
Participate in value engineering, cost reduction, and productivity enhancement initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should bring:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
3 to 5 years of relevant experience in HVAC engineering, building services design, fluid management systems, or industrial project engineering.
Experience working with engineering, manufacturing, and project execution teams in an industrial or building services environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of engineering design principles, project engineering practices, and technical documentation standards and GD&T as per ASMI Y14.5
Knowledge of HVAC systems, Fire pumping systems, boiler/chiller plants, cooling towers, and related building services systems is preferred.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, or equivalent engineering platforms.
Strong understanding of engineering drawings, assemblies, fabrication documentation, and BOM management.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Awareness of sustainability and energy-efficient engineering practices is desirable.
