A high school diploma is required, while an associate degree or PATTAN Paraeducator Certificate is preferred. Candidates should ideally have 1-2 years of experience with special needs children and must obtain specific state and health clearances.

Paraprofessionals are not responsible for the design, direction or evaluation of the teaching/learning process.
Two categories:
(1) Center-Based Paraprofessionals
(2) District Paraprofessionals
PEI Paraprofessional At-Large may provide 1:1 support to eligible young children in early childhood settings (e.g., preschool, Head Start, childcare), may cover in a PEI classroom, or provide CCAT support. The 189-day calendar is flexible and will be designed based on the needs of the children serving.
