Internship -Industrial Design

Industrial Design Intern - Pacific Design Lab, Adelaide 

Location: Gepps Cross, Adelaide SA (On-site) 
Duration: 6 Months | Casual Paid Internship starting in Dec 2026
Hours: Minimum 15 hours per week (flexible around studies) 
 

About the Opportunity 

Join Schneider Electric's Pacific Design Lab, one of seven global design studios, and work on real Clipsal by Schneider Electric products used across Australia and New Zealand. 

As an Industrial Design Intern, you'll be an active member of the design team, contributing to live projects from user research and concept development through to CAD modelling, prototyping and design reviews. You'll work alongside experienced designers, engineers and product teams while building valuable industry experience and a strong portfolio. 

What You'll Do 

• Conduct user, market and competitor research 

• Develop concepts through sketching and ideation 

• Create 3D CAD models and renders 

• Build and test prototypes, including 3D prints 

• Support CMF, ergonomics and usability studies 

• Collaborate with engineering, product and marketing teams 

• Present your work to stakeholders 

About You 

Essential 

• Studying Industrial Design, Product Design or similar 

• Final or penultimate year of study 

• Portfolio demonstrating your design process 

• Strong sketching, CAD and visual communication skills 

• Familiarity with tools such as Rhino, KeyShot or Adobe Creative Suite 

Desirable 

• Interest in manufacturing and injection moulding 

• Experience with user research or usability testing 

• Interest in ergonomics, CMF, smart home or energy technologies
