About this role

Research, photograph and write stories for The Post and Courier Pee Dee. Story ideas will be self-generated and assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researches stories using personal contacts, databases and/or the Web; finds the most relevant sources for information; develops a list of knowledgeable, diverse sources.
  • Produces visual story and project ideas relevant to the communities we serve. Brings real people into stories. Works creatively on stories assigned by supervisors.
  • Produces visual stories that are clear and compelling. Complements stories appropriate multimedia.
  • Works cooperatively and collaboratively across teams in the newsroom and departments in the newspaper division.
  • Provides timely information to reporters, visual editors, digital editors, graphic artists and presentation editors.
  • Provides accurate and detailed caption information with correct spelling and punctuation.

Requirements, minimum education level, and experience:

  • Currently enrolled at Francis Marion University
  • Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Journalism, English or related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills associated with developing trusting relationships and maintaining a high level of confidentiality
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills with excellent follow through
