Sheet Metal Machine Operator 

 Department: Manufacturing/Production - Ennis FLSA Status: Non – Exempt/Full Time

 Amount of Travel Required: None Positions Supervised: No

 Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm 

POSITION SUMMARY

 Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products for commercial audio equipment. Work may involve any of the following: setting up and operating fabricating machines to cut, bend, punch, and straighten sheet metal; shaping metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using a hammer; operating soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts; inspecting, assembling, and smoothing seams and joints of burred surfaces. 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  Read work orders and production schedules to determine specifications, such as materials to be used, locations of cutting, bending, and geometrical dimensioning and tolerances.

  • Scribe reference lines on workpieces as guides for cutting operations, according to blueprints, templates, sample parts, or specifications. (Layout)
  • Test and adjust speeds and actions, according to machine specifications.
  • Set blade tensions, heights, and angels to perform prescribed cuts. 
  • Start machines, monitor their operations, and record operational data.
  • Install, align, and lock specified punches, dies, cutting blades, and punches or other fixtures in rams or bed of machines.
  • Conduct routine set up and running of product through the Salvagnini, press brake (NC or CNC) and AMADA machines.

ESSENTIAL TASKS

  • Perform machine maintenance (PM) and setup by loading work pieces, plastic material, or chemical solutions. 
  • Measure and examine completed work pieces to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers. 
  • Adjust ram strokes of press to specified lengths and position guides, stops, holding blocks, or other fixtures to secure and direct work pieces. 
  • Train and mentor others-leadership capacity.

 Education

 High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) 

 Experience

 At least five years of sheet metal experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment 

At least three years of experience in set up and running of NC or CNC Press brakes, Laser, Salvagnini and AMADA punches. 

At least three to five years of experience in print reading and GD&T.

 Certification Requirements

  • Ability to become Forklift certified to drive a forklift.

Other Requirements

  • Proficient understanding of machines and hand tools and the ability to use the appropriate one safely
  • Proficient understanding of raw materials, production processes, and quality control
  • Knowledge of numbers, their operations, and interrelationships including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Must be able to operate several sheet metal machines, including the Salvagnini and Laser with no supervision
  • Interpret blueprints as well as receive verbal instructions
  • Estimate materials and time required to complete various tasks
  • Ability to train others according to MiTek’s work instructions
