Description and Requirements

The Team You Will Join

When you join MetLife’s Global Technology team, you’ll be part of a forward-thinking group dedicated to shaping the future of digital solutions for customers worldwide. You’ll develop, maintain and support technology applications and delivery, leveraging AI, automation, and contemporary ways of working to enhance experiences and drive business outcomes. Your work will simplify complex processes, improve tech resiliency, and ensure high-performing, seamless solutions that power life’s most important moments. In this dynamic environment, you’ll collaborate with talented peers across teams and functions, expanding your skills in impactful ways. Ready to push boundaries and set new industry standards? Join us and help drive the future of technology forward.

The Opportunity

The AVP, AI Orchestration is a newly created role that serves as the critical bridge between MetLife’s enterprise AI strategy and how US Technology puts it to work, turning powerful platforms and shared capabilities into measurable business outcomes across US Technology and the US Businesses. This is an exciting opportunity to shape, from day one, how one of the world’s leading financial services companies applies AI to help customers build a more confident future. You will report directly to the CIO and help accelerate agentic redesign of business processes across digital channels and product lines. You will also have a direct line to the enterprise teams building our AI foundations, so what you learn on the front lines will influence the platforms of tomorrow.

Key Responsibilities

• Enterprise AI orchestration: Define and drive the US Businesses enterprise approach for AI adoption across technology planning, engineering, delivery, governance, and communications; align leaders and teams around common priorities and outcomes.

• Standards, patterns, and reuse: Establish and maintain an enterprise AI capability catalog covering approved tools, platforms, reusable services, agents, patterns, and use cases; identify and scale successful practices to reduce duplication and fragmentation.

• Adoption and enablement: Lead a virtual network of AI champions; equip teams through playbooks, training, workshops, office hours, and hackathons; convert experimentation into sustained daily usage.

• Measurement and continuous improvement: Define adoption and effectiveness measures for the CIO and senior leadership; identify barriers, recalibrate interventions, and demonstrate business and delivery impact through evidence.

• Responsible AI governance: Partner with Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Data Governance to establish acceptable-use guardrails, review checkpoints, and clear human accountability, particularly for higher-risk insurance and customer-facing applications.

• Regulatory readiness: Monitor relevant AI regulatory developments and translate requirements into practical policy, controls, and operating guidance before compliance gaps emerge.

• Tooling and platform strategy: Drive consistent and interoperable use of AI development tools and internal LLM platforms; evaluate emerging tools and vendors and provide build-vs.-buy-vs.-partner recommendations to the CIO and UST SLT.

• AI-accelerated operating model: Embed AI across requirements, code generation, testing, documentation, and delivery workflows; redesign team rituals, roles, and success measures for hybrid human-agent work; scale pilot outcomes into repeatable patterns.

• Executive and external representation: Represent US Technology’s AI strategy across MetLife and with key partners; build relationships with vendors, analysts, and industry peers; partner with Corporate Communications on the enterprise AI narrative.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive technology leadership experience across engineering, product, or delivery, including 4+ years leading enterprise transformation, organizational change, or technology modernization with measurable business impact.

• Demonstrated ability to influence CIO-level and senior leaders, build coalitions, resolve competing priorities, and deliver outcomes across a highly matrixed organization without direct authority.

• Proven record of driving large-scale adoption of technology, delivery practices, or new ways of working across multiple teams or business areas.

• Hands-on fluency with modern AI capabilities and tooling, including Copilot, Claude, internal LLM platforms, retrieval-augmented generation, vector search, embeddings, model validation, and agentic delivery models.

• Working knowledge of responsible AI governance and technology risk in a regulated industry, with the ability to partner effectively with Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Data Governance.

• Ability to translate between technical and executive audiences while maintaining accuracy, clarity, and strategic focus; strong executive presence and external-facing communication capability.

• Experience building and mobilizing virtual teams, champion networks, or communities of practice and sustaining accountability through influence and measurable outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Preferred: insurance or other regulated-industry experience; familiarity with NAIC or state AI guidance; background spanning technical delivery and organizational enablement; public speaking, thought leadership, or analyst/vendor engagement experience.

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.

The expected salary range for this position is $180,000 - $230,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
