General Repair Technician - Commercial

Job Summary:
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building systems, including minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry work in commercial properties.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with various systems and equipment in commercial settings, providing prompt and effective repairs.
- Inspect commercial buildings regularly to ensure systems and fixtures are in good working order and comply with local safety regulations.
- Repair or replace doors, windows, drywall, ceiling tiles, and other building components as needed to maintain the facility's appearance and functionality.
- Maintain lighting systems, including replacing bulbs, ballasts, and light fixtures in commercial spaces.
- Respond to emergency repair calls for urgent issues like leaks, electrical faults, or system malfunctions in commercial buildings.
- Work closely with property managers and building owners to prioritize and schedule repairs in a manner that minimizes disruption to tenants or operations.
- Ensure compliance with local building codes and safety standards during all repair and maintenance tasks.
- Document all work orders and repairs completed, ensuring proper records are kept for building management and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate with outside contractors as needed for specialized repairs or major building renovations.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in general repair or maintenance work, with a focus on commercial properties like office buildings, retail centers, schools, or healthcare facilities.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs.
- Experience with commercial-grade systems and fixtures, including faucets, lighting, thermostats, and door hardware.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment necessary for commercial repairs.
- Knowledge of building codes and safety regulations relevant to commercial properties.
- Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with property managers, building owners, and tenants to coordinate repairs and ensure satisfaction.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials (50+ lbs), work in confined spaces, and perform tasks on ladders or scaffolding as required.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for travel between job sites.
- Availability: Must be available for on-call shifts and emergency repairs, including some nights or weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in commercial environments such as office buildings, hotels, retail stores, or healthcare facilities.
- Familiarity with energy-efficient systems, such as LED lighting and low-flow plumbing fixtures.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 safety certification, or willingness to complete certification.
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track work orders and repairs.
Compensation:
- $20 - $35 p/h Based on experience
- Overtime opportunities for on-call or emergency work.
