- Creating software that controls precision motion platforms, sensors, actuators and measurement hardware
- Supporting the evolution of software architecture, design standards and engineering best practice
- Mentoring developers and helping grow capability across the software team
- Collaborating with systems engineers, physicists, software architects and technical leaders
- Leading sprint planning, estimation and delivery activities
- Managing dependencies across software, hardware, LabVIEW and data analysis teams
- Supporting integration, verification and release activities for customer-facing systems
- Facilitating technical discussions and helping resolve complex engineering challenges
- Remaining hands-on with development while contributing technical leadership across the team
We're particularly interested in people with experience in:
- C# .NET Development
- Industrial Automation

- Experience with WPF or similar desktop UI frameworks
- Multithreaded application development and concurrent processing
- Agile software delivery and sprint-based development
- Software quality processes including integration testing and controlled release management
- Working with requirement traceability, design reviews and issue tracking platforms such as Jira
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience mentoring, coaching or providing technical leadership to other engineers
- Advanced AI capability
Nice to have
- Semiconductor inspection or semiconductor manufacturing equipment
- Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)
- Scientific instrumentation or metrology systems
- Motion controllers, piezo actuators and high-resolution sensing technologies
- Machine vision or image analysis systems
- SCADA, HMI or Industrial IoT platforms
- Python, C++ or other engineering-focused programming languages
- TCP/IP networking and distributed systems
- Cleanroom environments, regulated industries or functional safety standards
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a related technical discipline
or
- Equivalent commercial experience developing complex engineering software systems
Why join Infinitesima?
Infinitesima develops advanced Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) technology that enables the next generation of semiconductor devices.
Our systems combine precision engineering, advanced physics, software and data science to solve measurement challenges at nanometre scale. As we continue to scale internationally, software plays a critical role in how our systems perform, communicate and deliver value to customers.
You'll join a highly skilled team of engineers and scientists building technology used to support some of the world's most advanced semiconductor manufacturing environments.
This is a genuinely rare opportunity to combine C# software engineering, technical leadership and cutting-edge hardware development in one role.
Our strength lies in the varied perspectives that come from different cultures, experiences, and identities. We believe that true innovation is fuelled by collaboration, locally and globally. We strive to foster an environment where everyone can contribute meaningfully and thrive. Company at a glance
Infinitesima was spun out of the University of Bristol in 2001 and has been developing innovative metrology solutions which improve speed and precision in the manufacture of semiconductors. The company’s technology combines the 3-dimensional surface detection capability of atomic force microscopy (AFM), with high-speed laser activation and the accuracy of interferometry. The Rapid Probe Microscope (RPM™) is protected by an extensive patent portfolio. The company’s RPM™ technology is being used by leading semiconductor equipment companies globally. Semiconductor devices provide the foundations on which progress in the technology sector are enabled. From Smartphones to Artificial Intelligence, 5G communications to autonomous vehicles, all are made possible through advances in semiconductor processes. Scaling these processes requires sub-nanometer measurement of increasingly complex 3D structures to enable more powerful devices.
Based in Abingdon, UK, we are a high calibre team of 80 people and continue to grow. We are backed by global financial and industry investors including Applied Ventures, the strategic venture arm of the industry leading equipment company.
