Software Engineer, Distributed Systems (Core)
About this role
Hightouch is seeking a distributed systems engineer to build and optimize the core syncing engine that moves customer data for our platform and internal teams. You’ll own projects end-to-end, work directly with customers on scaling challenges, and influence our multi-cloud, multi-region infrastructure that serves a global base.
What youll do
- Own and deliver projects from start to finish with a high degree of autonomy.
- Build and optimize the data syncing engine to move massive amounts of customer data efficiently.
- Implement streaming capabilities to support real-time syncing from sources like webhooks and queues.
- Improve scalability and reliability by identifying bottlenecks and designing for growth.
- Contribute to the Personalization API latency goals and its low-latency caching layer.
- Extend and support the multi-region and multi-cloud backend to meet data residency needs for a global customer base.
What Hightouch is looking for
- 6+ years in distributed systems engineering.
- Experience creating event collection or data streaming services powering critical systems.
- Expertise with Kafka, SQL databases, Kubernetes, and Docker.
- Extremely strong in systems design fundamentals and understanding of large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience building data sync engines that process and move terabytes of data per day in a scalable way.
- Experience working close to the infrastructure layer and understanding how Spark, Flink, and Kafka are built.
- Proven track record owning and scaling systems through order-of-magnitude growth.
- Experience in high-velocity startups through growth stages (Series B–Series E).
- Strong CS fundamentals (general education requirements).
