Senior Claims Adjuster

Rice Insurance Services Center has an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Claims Adjuster. The Senior Claims Adjuster manages insurance claims to determine the extent and legitimacy of claims and issue benefits as jurisdictionally required. This is a highly detailed role and is an end-to-end claims role.

• Investigates claims for merit and legitimacy by gathering documentation from all affected parties, identifies and verifies damage to person or property either through statements or on-site investigations or meetings with clients.
• Establishes appropriate pricing of claims based on research and analysis.
• Notifies clients of results of investigations.
• Discusses lines of authority for specific claims resolution.
• Makes recommendations for settlements or denial of claims. 
• Processes denials.
• Negotiates claims with claimants and or claimants’ legal counsel.
• Properly reserves funds.
• Adjusts client claim reserves appropriately. 
• Obtains required releases for finalization of claims.
• Maintains post-litigation files.
• Reviews rates, rules and regulations to ensure that claims practices correctly follow standards and laws.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required:

• High school diploma and 5 years related claims experience required.
• Appropriately licensed and/or certified in all states in which claims are being handled or able to obtain the licenses/certification per local requirements.
• Extensive knowledge of accepted industry standards and practices.
• Computer experience with related claims and business software.

Preferred:

• Minimum of 4-8 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Bachelors Degree with at least one year of additional legal education or experience in a legal or errors and omissions professional liability field required.
• Juris Doctorate (JD) preferred.
• Knowledge of legal concepts, claims handling, and insurance industry.
• Must have a strong work ethic and solid communication, writing, and negotiation skills.
• Must also have the ability to manage a high case load independently and to interact well with all levels of internal and external business partners.
