The Cattle Buyer is responsible for procuring market-ready cattle through various purchasing options and scheduling daily harvest production. They must monitor market conditions and maintain constant communication with management and suppliers regarding trade and transport.
A BS degree in Animal Science or Agriculture is preferred, along with required experience in cattle livestock. Candidates must possess strong mathematical and communication skills and be willing to travel over 70% of the time.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team. The Cattle Buyer will gain exposure to multiple aspects within the meat packing industry. This position offers the opportunity to gain skills in negotiating effectively, procuring market ready cattle utilizing a variety of different purchasing options, scheduling daily harvest production, and price reporting. The individual must stay informed on market conditions and available cattle supply. It is imperative that the individual maintains close communication with upper management, scale house coordinators, and suppliers regarding cattle trade, transport, and harvest. This position was designed to prepare the individual to manage his or her own territory as a Senior Cattle Buyer.
Education: BS Degree in Animal Science or Agriculture preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Cattle livestock experience required. Prior experience in the cattle and packing industry preferred.
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Special Skills: Strong mathematical skills.
Travel: 70%+
Position Specific Details: Must reside or be willing to relocate within 30 miles of Joslin, IL.
